Masters Preview

The 75th edition of the Masters gets underway on Thursday with defending champion Phil Mickelson the 5-1 favorite at SBG Global.com. Mickelson is coming off a win last week in Houston and looks to be in good form to win his fourth career Masters. Tiger Woods is the second choice in the golf betting even though he has not won a tournament in more than a year. Woods has never finished outside the top six at Augusta but he still has not rediscovered his form of a couple of years ago and has not been in contention for a win in a long time.

If Mickelson doesn?t win the Masters then perhaps Nick Watney will. He is the third choice in the betting at 12-1. He has played the Masters three times and finished in the top 20 every time. He leads the PGA Tour this year in all around and in adjusted scoring average. It would not be a surprise if he was in contention on Sunday.

The two top ranked players in the world are Martin Kaymer and Lee Westwood. Kaymer is ranked first in the world rankings but has not played well in the past month and has never done anything at Augusta. Westwood is second in the rankings and his game has been up and down so far this year. He is known for playing well in the majors though, with top three finishes in four of his last five starts in majors. He was second last year behind Mickelson in the Masters. Both Kaymer and Westwood have odds of less than 20-1 as do Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson and Justin Rose.

Matt Kuchar and Hunter Mahan are each listed with odds of 22-1 at SBG. Kuchar is second on the PGA Tour in all-around and fourth in putting. Mahan has finished in the Top 10 at Augusta the past two years and on Tour this year he has finished in the top 10 in five events.

If you are looking for a couple of longshots this week then KJ Choi and Ryan Moore are worth a look. Choi is listed at 55-1 to win the Masters while Moore is 60-1. Choi tied for fourth last year at the Masters and two weeks ago he tied for sixth at Bay Hill. Moore has two Top 15 finishes in his two career starts at the Masters.
