have a rule that they will never normally allow coverage of the front 9 at Augusta

stupid rule! what's the reasoning? that's like not showing the first half of the superbowl.

TV coverage is the same in Australia, covering only the final 2.5 hours live of the first round. I had also heard some crazy ruling whereby they can't show the first 9 holes at Augusta.

I compare it to someone giving you only the last half of a book to read (not that I read books).

The worst part is what little coveage they do have will no doubt be riddled with ads anyway. Oh well. Guess the scores will be the same whether we see it or not.

Jack the powers that be said yesterday that they are considering full front nine coverage----NEXT year. Well at least they limit the commercials. The coverage has been like this for as many years as I can remember, so I guess I'm used to it. But I wholeheartedly agree it sucks.

Cartman-- commercials are only 4 (or 6) minutes per hour by orders from the head honchos at Augusta

Hope we do only get 6 minutes of ads per hour in Australia as well. From memory last year it was a miracle to get 6 minutes of golf without having ads !!!!

This is the way it has always been. The head honchos only allow certain holes to be televised. I guess its the little things like this that keeps the tourney the most prestigous in the world.

I, however, do agree with you all. I wish they would show some of the front nine as well. Maybe next year. I heard one time....that the Augusta National did not want TV towers all over the course and therefore made the decision to only show the back nine. True??? I don't know.

I read once that the networks that cover the Masters pay peanuts for the rights. It gives the Masters officials in return their say in just about everything that goes on, from the times to televise to the announcers.

Only 2 1/2 hours but what an enjoyable 2 1/2.
Would venture to say they sqeezed in more golf than most 4 hour events.
Can't think of another event where the spectators are so reverant the announcers have to whisper just loud enough to be heard over the birds but not by the players.
I applaud them for their efforts so save a memory of what tradional golf was once about and putting their beliefs ahead of bucks.Plus its nice to know there are still a few that have the nads to tell the politically correct to kiss there a$$.

Cartman, just wondering how many minutes of commercials you had yesterday during the telecast? In U.S. it's 4 minutes per hour (not the 6 I thought).
