Dallas Mavericks @ Detroit Pistons

The Detroit Pistons go for their eighth straight win tonight when they welcome the poor traveling Dallas Mavericks to Motown.

The Pistons are 23-13 overall this season and second in the Central division. They have won five straight at The Palace by an average of more than 10 points per game.

"We're really starting to play with a swagger," Richard Hamilton said after a 85-66 win over the Rockets Wednesday.

In their last 12 games overall they are allowing a miserly 79.6 ppg and have extended their NBA record of holding teams under 100 points to 38 straight games.

The Mavericks are just 4-12 SU and a hard-to-believe 2-14 ATS on the highway this season. Despite very high expectations entering this season they are just fourth in the Midwest and 20-15 overall having struggled to build chemistry and integrate a number of new faces into the line-up. The Mavs have also had their share of injury problems and their latest concern is star point guard Steve Nash. He shot just 1-for-9 Wednesday against Golden State as he continued to experience problems with his back.

"It wasn't that much fun," Nash said. "I felt better before the game. But it was tightening up as we went along." He struggled against the Pacers Friday, shooting just 3-for-11 as Dallas lost 92-80 at home as 4 point favorite's. The Mavericks were outrebounded 54-41 by the Pacers and shot only 36.8% from the field.

"A lot of it was their defense," Mavericks coach Don Nelson said. "We couldn't get where we wanted and the openings we wanted. And then they block shots in the open court." If they struggled at home against the Pacers defense how can you expect them to cope on the road against the Pistons? And Dallas have not responded well to bad losses this season, going just 0-7 ATS after a game where they were beaten by 10+ points.

Expect the Pistons to strangle the life out of the Mavs and turn this one into a half-court battle. Detroit have won five straight against Western Conference teams and that run will increase to six tonight.
