Ack! Can't believe I missed the boat:

I vowed after the Forrest fight to bet against all Buddy McGirt fighters when reasonable, today was the first opportunity. That guy is dreadful, how in the world does he keep attracting clients?

Didn't do my homework this weekend.

Paul Smith lost to a bum Saturday after taking McGirt as his trainer, his opponent was +600 or something. Blindly betting against McGirt worked for Latimore +600 recently, and a +650 Mora decision prop. McGirt Jr. also lost in a huge upset recently, and Sr's strategy for Codrington against Bika was awful.

We need to have a watchdog for this, any time a McGirt-trained fight has lines released, flash the forum alarms and get your bets in against him ASAP. Hopefully we can get another year of terrible upsets and blunders at great odds before the fighters wake up and sends his ass to burger king.

"the bunker"
great observation,n.j......

i also remember floyd mayweather sr giving hassim rahman almost incomprehensible instructions vs john ruiz as ruiz did his punch and grab schtick to perfection....

being an ex-boxer does not a trainer make....

N'Dou nearly beat Paulie M about a month back when Paulie was being trained by McGirt. Lovemore was a BIG underdog and lost 7-5 on the cards. There may be something to this trend....

Buddy had a good run with Gatti and he had the great moment of being the first to train a fighter - Tarver - that knocked Roy Jones the puck out. And there were a few other wins, I think, but since then he's had a horrendous run.

Great catch.

For Smith to lose on points in England against a chinny guy that never goes past 7 or 8 tells you he must have had a poor work rate and no gameplan. That seems to be a trend, McGirt fighters putting on unusually lazy and disorganized performances: Candelo vs Sanchez, Julio vs Quintana, Forrest vs Mora, Tarver vs Hopkins, Eddie Chambers vs Pov. Anchondo, Mihtar, and Nguyen were all heavily favoured prospects who were upset with McGirt. He's imposing his style on everyone he trains regardless of if it suits them rather than improve their current and successful form. Remember Brewster's attempt to out-box Vlad Klit?

Amir Khan is looking closely at McGirt as his next trainer. Frank s. noted how Khan can be dropped and almost gave us a huge payday with Gomez inside, this Khan-McGirt pairing could cash in big time.

Hey guys, McGirt Jr. is facing Raymond Joval from the Netherlands next month. This is an excellent time to go against Lil' McGirt. Joval is no world-beater but he has a very high workrate and a sturdy beard. I can see Buddy Jr. being pretty cautious after his KO loss and getting outworked over the course of the fight. I dont think Joval will KO him BUT he can take him in to deep waters later in the fight so anything can happen. Joval has ko'd Shanna Taylor and had Willie Gibbs hurt a number of times in their fight.

I think Joval will probably be around -300

Nice one! we'll have to bump this when the lines are released.

I haven't seen Joval since his loss to Vargas, your description sounds correct. With a strong chin and busy style, it should frustrate Jr, and given the trend of Sr's fighters collapsing under pressure and having poor stamina, this looks like a great bet. It seems like if Sr's fighters don't put their man away early, they lose confidence and focus and scrap any gameplan. As long as Joval applies pressure and keeps coming forward, I see Jr being discouraged and waiting for the cards, or even being stopped.

Looking forward to the lines on this one, I'm going to have to do some Youtube research.

5dimes just dropped a line on this fight...

Joval -160 / McGirt +120....I'm sure there's a $100 limit right now

Note: 5dimes has the fight located in New York, not the Netherlands, changes the whole thing imo as Joval is not a puncher, this should go to the cards and McGirt might have the juice

Just a heads-up fellas...great thread

Just realized the fight is this weekend, McGirt was born in NY so he already has the location advantage and most likely the promotional advantage. Combine that with McGirt having a decent height and reach advantage, along with being a southpaw, and Joval is 40 yrs old with no power at all...I can't lay the -160 against McGirt in this situation

I understand the "advantages" McGirt has BUT he has never fought anyone as good as Joval. Joval will outwork him the whole fight and possibly get a late stoppage. Is a bogus decison out of the question? Not at all. As small hedge for McGirt by Dec wouldnt be a bad idea but I think Joval at -160 is a steal. Thas just my opinion.

Edit: also remember that McGirt just got stopped by someone not as talented as Joval. He most likely still has some psychological demons that are still lurking.

Thanks for the head-up boxlox.

I took Joval at the 100$ limit, I figure if I change my mind later I can buy it back with a tiny loss on juice. The fight is on ESPN, which reduces the likelihood of a robbery, though its still possible.

I agree Eddy this is partly against Mcgirt rather than for Joval. There is a definite trend of McGirt fighters being outworked and discouraged, and there is good reason to think it will happen again.

McGirt wasn't outworked, he was stopped by a 168 lb'er who can punch a bit, now he's fighting a 160 lb'er who can't punch a lick and at 40 yrs old is coming off a 10 month layoff. McGirt has the location, promotion, size, strength, power, height, reach, and age advantage here.

I could see playing Joval at + money or even money, but I wouldn't lay -160 against ALL those advantages. Joval could win most of the rounds and still lose a decision here, not something I'd lay -160 on. In fact, McGirt is now +145 and given all the advantages and the fact that Joval can't punch a lick, I see value in McGirt at +145

5dimes now reads...

Joval -135 / McGirt -105

At $100 a wager the line really doesn't matter that much...lol...but I'm glad I grabbed McGirt at +145

ya congrats to those who caught a good Jr line. Ive taken openers on hunches and usually the line shifts in my favour, not for Joval though. Still think he wins, just caught a bad line.
