Adrian McPherson will be the Alouettes' starting quarterback this Wednesday, at Toronto, in the team's opening exhibition game, head coach Marc Trestman announced following Monday's workout.
The decision was fairly predictable given that McPherson, entering his second season, is expected to back up Anthony Calvillo this season. Calvillo is one of many veterans who will remain at home for the game.
McPherson is expected to play the opening half, Trestman said. He'll be replaced by Chris Leak in the second half. Ricky Santos is expected to play the fourth quarter. Brad Banks remains "very much" in the picture, Trestman emphasized. Banks will play June 23, against Winnipeg, likely backing up Calvillo.
Among those joining Calvillo this week will be receivers Kerry Watkins and Ben Cahoon; offensive linemen Scott Flory and Bryan Chiu, along with running backs Avon Cobourne, Mike Imoh and Dahrran Diedrick.
Defensive players not making the trip to Toronto include: Mark Estelle, Davis Sanchez, Matthieu Proulx, T.J. Hill and Anwar Stewart.
While nobody was released on Monday, two players were added to the training camp roster ? centre Robbie Powell and linebacker John Mohring, who had been suspended. Sanchez missed practice due to a doctor's appointment for a "minor issue," according to Trestman.
"I'm excited to see the new guys play," the coach said.
