These are some of the medals my Dad was awarded during his 28 year career with the Air Force.

Starting with first, Distinguished Flying Cross. Dad told the story behind this medal. It was Thanksgiving Day in Vietnam. He was the navigator in a plane flying recon. They flew over one of our makeshift bases. He spotted the enemy moving through the jungle surrounding this base. He radioed to them to tell them. They were sitting down to dinner and the radio man said was more worried about dinner. They got a Captain on and again my Dad told them you are about to be attacked. The men swiftly organized and repelled the enemy. no one was killed except them. The next day a Full Bull found my Dad and told him he saved his men. He was told he was being put in for the DFC. Dad insisted everyone be awarded a medal and they did.

My salute to him Steve..I see from his medals he served 2 tours in Nam.
I am sure he would have some very interesting stories. Give him a hug for me and and let him know how much the ground forces appreciated him for covering our butts.
