I lived in Italy for 10 years on an American army base.. About an hour away from Camp Darby,Livorno is the Florence American Cemetery...my elementary school at Camp Darby on Memorial Day would take a bus out to put small flags and red poppies on all the graves...the impact of doing that is always a reminder of what Memorial Day is to me. I always would wonder as a child if any of the relatives of these soldiers would come here to visit their loved ones. So many American tourist visiting Florence today never stop here. On the many tour guide buses going to Florence the tour guide will announce" on your left is the American Cemetery".. but no one stops as the tourist get a quick glimpse from the autostrda....the irony is many of those that are visiting Florence might not be there for those that gave up their life for their country.... I have been to the the cemetery many times but the aerial view of the line of crosses in the Tuscany back round is almost breathtaking...hope everyone has a nice Memorial Day and thinks about all those that served their country and those that lost their lives .....peace...

I have shown here for the past years different you tubes of the Florence cemetery ....this one from above is so powerful... as elementary kids I think we complained about our day trip...for some reason i always remember the P&J sandwichs with not enough jelly and warm kool aide...for lunch...i can't remember where I put my car keys an hour ago but remember the kool aide 55 years ago....
