Just putting this out there......

My grandfather was a WWII POW in Poland and was a Brigadier General in the Army.
He served many years and had many stories.
He loved the movie Midnight Run and would watch it on HBO anytime it was on.
I have most of his medals and his near mint, Army green military trench coat to this day.
He played golf and met up with his POW buddies every year until he passed.
I heard many many jokes from him as he had many stored away.
He was in combat until his time as a POW and loved the military and what it stood for.
I gave my (now 10 years old) son a middle name that was my grandfather's first name.

Feel free to share a story of someone we should remember. No big deal if no one does.....I thought I would at the very least share this story.

My last name is Schwartz, which is German and a common Jewish name as well. It is also a great power that when harnessed can be used by good or evil as seen in the Hollywood blockbuster, Space Balls, but back to WWII.

Jewish named houses were visited by SS officers and my Grandmother told me stories about families lying about their faith in an attempt to save their lives. I can't imagine having to make a decision like that. I never knew my Grandfather because he died in a concentration camp but I will never forget hearing the story from my Grandmother. With tears streaming down her face, she told me about meeting him, their courting, marriage and how she was pregnant with my father when there was a knock on their door. She didn't go in to great detail but told me that he died a short time later at a concentration camp. I remember asking her if he suffered? Her eyes locked on mine and she grabbed my hand, "No, that guard tower was over 20 meters in the air and his neck broke upon impact with the ground."

Josh and Joker...Thank you for sharing

Joker: A Brigadier General..that is quite something. I would have loved to have listened to his stories. I have to watch Midnight Run if I can find it.

Josh: That certainly was a sad time in history. Many now days forget those times. Can't believe they are having protest here against Israel....but nothing surprises me after they support 5 time felon in commission of crime..on drugs..and resisting arrest. This isn't our past generations.

It is hard to compare wars of my generation compared to those our fathers and grand parents served in.
We never had to to storm beaches knowing half wouldn't make it. Or the Korean war where almost as many froze to death as died from battle.
