I don't know this seems way to good to be true. It looks like a trap to me. I know vegas doesn't give out gifts am I missing something? I don't see any real major injury news for Memphis. Some stats..

Memphis 20-4 Uab 10-12
Memphis 10-0 in conf.
last meeting memp win 102-81 although at memp.
uab 3-6 versus c-usa foes.

The line started at 7 now it is down to 4.5 at some places. Does the public think it is time for memphis to lose or they won't be up for the game. I don't know I already got stupid I guess and put 1 unit on Memphis. I would like to put more but would like some other input from other people in case I am missing something.

Something about this line is definitely a little shady. There always seems to be that one line a night that I look for that the public will hammer. This may be the one and it may not. As for now i think I am going to pass on this game unless I find something more...but if I had to pick I would go with UAB but only b/c it looks like a trap

There is no such thing as a trap it is a figment of the betting publics imagination, bookmakers do not post a line to trap you they post a line they think they can get action on both sides with they don't care who wins or loses as long as they get equal action on both sides so they get the vig which is where they get there money. I guarantee you as long as the books get equal action on both sides of a game they are very happy, the line is adjusted for the money that is coming in on a game. Looks to me like there are allot of people on UAB which is fine by me since I have Memphis I bet it at 5 and if it keeps going down I will bet it again! Why you ask? Because my handicapping tells me they are the right side! I remember just the night before last I had Florida Int. at +11 the line jumped to +13 and if you look Fla Int covered very easy. I can give you all kinds of examples of line moves that used to scare me off a game earlier in my career that I would have won so I do not care if a line moves for no reason I will trust my capping and go from their now if I find an injury or some other reason that I think will affect my bet I will reavaluate my selection but I see no reason for the line change in the Memphis/UAB game so I am sticking with my original selection!

heelsfan- the line does look real good almost to good. I played memphis already and will probably play them more if it drops again

fletcher- I can't find that post. I checked back the last 3-4 days did it get moved or did you post it someplace besides college forum. Also I probably should not have said trap maybe reword it to something else.

RobertBIrish- As I said to fletcher maybe should have worded as something else. In my opinion the line looks to good to be true. Maybe somebody else knows something I don't. I know vegas doesn't care who wins as long as they try to get equal action. Some things just look to fishy. I have already played memphis and will probably play more if it keeps dropping. I hope that alot of the public is on uab and I get an even better line closer to game time. Well anyway good luck to us.

Thanks for the posts and good luck

Dan "the man" Wilson has his radio show here on Saturday mornings. He says there's lots of Vegas "trap" games. In fact, there's more this year than ever because the casinos are getting less action due to the events of 9/11. He's the ultimate "tout", so that would lead me to believe it's not true.

I'm guessing here but I find that when line moves to the contrary as in this case. It usually trickles down a few points, then all of a sudden BLAMM!! It'll jump the other way.

My guess is this will stay around 4.5-5 for the afternoon and by gametime will jump to 6 as the lower line gets pounded.

I've been told that wiseguys will bet a game in order to move the line. Then pound it at the adjusted line.

fawk it... Put 4 more units on memphis at 4.5 then went over to wsex to see what they had it at and it is up to 5. Glad I got the line now at 4.5 because I see this start to climb back up some before game time. Did the public jump on uab and drive the line down and some smart cash is coming in and the line comes back a little or did all the smart cash come in early at 7 and the 4.5 is a reaction to it? I will probably lose my ars it happens everytime I get all over a game i feel so strong about. anyway come on memphis.

godd luck.

fletcher, i remember you saying that if you thought the line was shaded, you either played the opposite side (which hits about 60% of the time) or you simply stayed away from the game altogether.... in re: the mem/uab game tonight, are you leaning toward uab or are you going to lay off the game altogether?

...i'm a memphis alum, so i'm already on the tigers, natch, but was wondering what your take on this game was???

(...by your earlier post, im guessing that you're spending more of your time looking at tomorrows games, but if you've got a little time, i'd appreciate your thoughts....)

I probably should keep my mouth shut but in cappin this game I find that when you take everything into account UAB should get no more than 2. I don't like playing a dog getting less than 5 but since UAB is at home I'll try 4'. This is one of those games where from all appearances, Mem should be giving a lot more but in reality they are giving too much. But, with college kids, you never know. Good luck

taoist no i didnot take memp, you were right what i said a few days ago,and this was a shade and people pushed it even further down.

this is what i said you play the shade or nothing,i did talk to ray and said if it droped lower i might take a shot with memp,at 4 thought they would win . but found when i went to check most bets were of the 50-100 plays and lots of them so it was uab or nothing and wasnot throwing money on uab,a team that shoots poor .

but it is the 4th shade this week and yes all the easy looking sides lost.

and for the last time they arenot traps it is just shadded 1 way for a reason because books know they will get dumb money and if some smart comes in on the low end they will be just fine with vig.

thanks for opening my eyes to Memphis.
You were so right about UAB
All the hoopla about Memphis almost swayed me BUT
when everyone is on a team, it'd usually the wrong one.
it wasn't even close.
Thanks again gsp.
