Hudson Valley area.....NY
I like the +11.5 and the Titans over Mich St.I know Detroit lost Rashod one of the most exciting players in the country but Watson brings back 4 starters. This team is dangerous. Two big reasons why I like Mercy is they play defense.Tough D that hold their opponets to under 40%shooting at least 15-16 times lyr.The other main reason is they are one of 5 teams that cover all the time.Lyr I think I was 7-1 ats with them.I know your not susposed to "marry" some teams but I do.A definate weakness in my capping skills. But with a solid team back I'll jump on them from the start.
They have a great shooter in Gray[74 tre's]a big time rebounder in Riggs. The center is 6'10 Mazur with 6'10 Holmes coming off the bench.Green is a good pt.gd.Belin a good defensive gd.This team has a lot of talent. They won 25 games ,went to the NIT semi's.A juco tranfer, and some vets from lyr. They are experienced and again play D.
Izzo lost the world.Mich St is still pre-ranked 12th so you know they have the talent.
Mich St is also one of my favorite teams ats.Not sure of my record but its close to Det's.Izzo wins on rebounds and defense. You heard me all lyr talk about how they rebound, reb margin,off.reb,etc,etc.They have won the B-10 4 yrs in a row because of that.Of course he gets guys that do all that and score.
But he only has one star back.Taylor will be explosive. He started 9 games lyr but has developed into a scorer.Mich St returns foul prone 6'10 Anagonye and 6'9 PF Ballinger. Two frosh will start in 6'6 Anderson and Mickee Dee All...Torbet[a shooter]
But the reason I have a strong lean to taking the pts is rebounding and defense are the toughest to teach a young team.In time Izzo will have his "puppies" ready. But this is to early in the season.
Playing at home and MSU not losing a home opener in over 25 yrs will help. But Mercy looks at this game as one of their biggest games of the yr.The entire mercy team hails from Michigan. They are looking for an upset, not a close game.I think they might even win outright.Izzo in another month will be on top of the B-10 again.I just think it will take some time to teach this team his fundamentals.
It's a strong play for me even though its early in the season. It would almost be a "love" play but Mercy was carried by Rashad and now must learn how to play w/o him.

Manhattan +13 over the Cuse.
Way to early to play this game.I worked summer camp with Gonzalez back in the 80's.Ironically it was at the Cuse.He is one crazy coach. He has bought to the Bronx the fast break, run and gun offense. He has done a pretty good job there despite his record. He is a great recruiter and returns some talented players.Jackette who played HS ball near me is solid.Holmes is a future star.He could get a double-double everynite.Flores the Rutgers tranfer has played great and will score. Green is a good pt gd.But this team is small but very athletic.
Going against the Cuse in the dome could be tough with the kind of offense that he runs.Boe will run his patented 2-3.With his tall wing players its hard to attack it.Cuse has no centers so 7'0 Forth has outplayed Celuck and McNeil.Cuse has an array of talented fowards in Warrick,Koneecny and a good shooter in Duany.
But Shumpert is the star.when he gets hot and he does at home he can bomb them from row 6.he is a big time player..Williams has moved to pt from shooting gd.He is tough but is somewhat inconsistent. If he and Shumpert start hitting the Cuse will be tough. But Boe has a young team. There front line players don't really have a scorer.
Not sure if Jaspers run and gun will be slowed down by Cuses zone.Jaspers might not be able to hit the outside shot due to the size difference.Cuse could control boards and dictate the game. But Cuse is young and like Mercy this is Manhattan's big game of the yr.Fordham +7.5 over DePaul.DePaul is one of the worst teams to bet on.Fordham lost its 2 gds.On the road, this early in the season with new gds scares me.But the rams frontline is awesome.I'll stay away from this game.To much of the unknown with both teams.
One strong play-Mercy,Mercy,Me plus 11.5

If someone told me before the game that Green would only score 12, Detroit would get outrebounded by 13, have 8 more turnovers than Mich St, shoot 11-19 at the line..I would never had thought Detroit would cover. But damn, Grays had a super game..did his own Phillips impersonation..even his misses were in. Riggs did a nice job as well..but he has to hit some free throws for Detroit to have a chance to beat caliber teams like Mich St. First chance seeing Torbert and Anderson..I know it was limited time, but Anderson impressed me more-so than Torbert. Reminded me of another Anderson, Derek..quick first step, slashing to the basket. Taylor can't play that poorly once Big Ten season rolls around.
