message numbers are changing, but i cannot see the new msgs coming up what am i doing wrong.

ag - it's a disk caching problem. Try one (or all) of the below:
(1) Try refreshing the page
(2) Assuming you're in Internet Explorer, click on the 'Tools' Menu bar, then 'Internet options', then 'Settings' and where it says 'Check for newer versions of stored pages' click 'every time' or 'Automatically'
(3) Press the 'Post Reply' button above/below the posts in each thread and then when you get the reply box opened you can see below it all the posts in the thread even the ones you couldn't see for the caching problem
