Miami of Ohio dismisses leading scorer

Oxford, OH (Sports Network) - Miami University of Ohio's basketball program dismissed their leading scorer, Alex Shorts, from the team on Thursday. Differences with coach Charlie Coles was the reason given for the dismissal.

A senior, Shorts averaged 13.2 points in 26 games for Miami this season. The RedHawks are 11-15 overall and 8-7 in the Mid-American Conference.

"I really like Alex as a person ... we all really like Alex," said coach Coles. It's been a tough year for both Alex and myself, and I really struggled coaching him. This was a decision that affects us all, but a decision I think will be for the best for all involved in the long run. It's not a personal thing against Alex, but it's something that I thought just had to happen."
