Like Mich St -1 over the Cuse.MSU has already beaten OU and Det.Mercy.Have not looked great in those wins.Izzo has some problems.Team is not shooting the ball well. They are turning the ball over to much.Losing 6 top players is not easy. But they still play "Izzo ball". Fundamentals, rebounding, defense, etc.
Cuse has beaten Manhattan,DePaul, and SUNY-Bing.Boe has come out and played some man defense latley. But will still rely on his 2-3 zone. It's one of the best zones in college b-ball.He disguises it sometimes and matches up.Sometimes he overplays the passing lanes vs.teams that can't penetrate.
But Izzo has enough inside players to make Boe play closer to the paint. He has some kids that can shoot which will open the frontline for the Spartans.
MSU's front line is huge.Anagone 6'8 255,Ballinger6'9 250,and Wolfe 6'9.The last 2 can shoot from 15 feet out. That will be where the Cuse could be in trouble.Cuse's frontline is their weakness. Not great defenders and poor rebounders.Forth,McNeill and Cole are average.Frosh Hakim is a puppy.Plus they are all foul prone. They all love to block shots and are in no position for a rebound. And we all know off. rebounds are the Spartans strenght.
The gds are kinda even with the Cuse getting the edge.Williams has moved to the pt.But he still goes out on the wing and can bang the 3.Thues has done a good job coming off the bench.Duany looked great the other nite at the 2 or 3.But he's out of control a lot.Preston is the real deal and can fire them up playing sm.fw or a 2 gd.
But MSU has Taylor who is there star. He's shooting is way off but he can penetrate and dish.Torbert is the 6'4 gd that should be able to see over the Cuse zone.Hill is a pure shooter and Izzo will put him on the wing tonite. And with Wolfe and Ballinger who can shoot, the Cuse defense will be in trouble.
Izzo will pressure Shumpert the whole game.Cannot see him getting to many good looks at the b-ball.Williams will get some but he creates his own.Preston needs room to shoot. If I know that so does Izzo.
If Cuse was a pressing team I could see the new MSU gds having trouble with the ball. But Boe doesn't press. He will throw in a few "token" ones but thats not there game.
Again this game will come down to who will control the bds.Cuse 's No.1 weakness is rebounding.Spartans live off the bds.
I think this game will be close because the Cuse zone will give Izzo's kid's some problems but in the end Mich st will pull this game out and win by 8-10 pts.
One side note that doesn't really mean much but I heard it on the radio.Taylor played this summer with the USA All stars and didn't get much playing time.He was upset at his coach. They won the gold medal so he kept quiet. But the coach was Jimmy Boe.
This is a strong play tonite.Almost a "luv" game but still to early for them.
