Michele Bachmann?s bogus attack on the black farmer settlement

By Adam Serwer

Here's an excerpt:

The issue came up after Bachmann and Republican Rep. Steve King of Iowa toured flooded areas along the Missouri River. During a news conference, they fielded a question about whether farmers affected by the flooding also should be worried by proposed U.S. Department of Agriculture cuts.

The two responded by criticizing a 1999 settlement in what is known as the Pigford case, after the original plaintiff, North Carolina farmer Timothy Pigford. Late last year, President Barack Obama signed legislation authorizing a new, nearly $1.2 billion settlement for people who were denied payments in the earlier one because they missed deadlines for filing.

Bachmann?s response is almost a liberal parody of how conservatives try to divide and conquer on the issue of government spending. Asked about potential cuts to hundreds of billions in agriculture subsidies, her response in effect is, ?you know who doesn?t deserve government money? Black people!? The comedy doesn?t stop there, though. Bachmann?s own family farm has received $260,000 in farm subsidies over the years.

SHE IS AN IDIOT

But where is the entire story where the Race Pimp lawyers are getting settlements for Black Folk who try to grow a tomato plant in their own back yard.

I hope she keeps up the good work, it certainly helps my guy. :0074

This thing really pisses me off.

The $billions in subsidies that corporate farming operations rake in and this bitch-on-wheels, who's own family farm benefits from those subsidies, wants to challenge the Pigford Settlement.

How this woman ever got elected to office is a mystery to me.

Do you have some proof to support that claim?

Per the Washington Post piece, claims filing for the second Pigford Settlement haven't even begun yet and 31% of the claims from the first Pigford Settlement were denied. Furthermore, the USDA Inspector General and the GAO will both be conducting audits of the claims as they?re being processed and their findings will be forwarded to the Department of Justice.

Yeah, that's what I thought. You have nothing from a credible source.

No doubt there are spurious claims of fraud from dubious sources and we're supposed to take their word over the USDA, the GAO and the Justice Dept.

Got it. :0074

Lumi, do you not find it troubling that a U.S. Congresswoman, who's own family farm has received $260,000 in farm subsidies, is challenging the veracity of the claims of black farmers applying for the same subsides? All while we hand out billions in subsidies to corporate farming operations?

Do you have any thoughts of your own on this, Lumi?

EDITORIAL: USDA?s Pigford fraud
Obama initiative ignores corruption to redistribute wealth

anyone who knowingly commits fraud for financial gain, then spouts off against the very same claims ! She is becoming a very savvy Politician isn't she? She has learned from your President.

I have huge problems with big corporate farming operations that have ruined small farm operations. Monsanto and DuPont that have destroyed thousands of family farms through ridiculous lawsuits.

Lumi, I have been reading about what Monsanto is doing overseas, let alone here in the USA. I find it very disturbing. Have you seen the documentary on Free Speech TV? It was jaw dropping, for me, as it looks like Monsanto is trying to corner most of the world's food supply.
