I'm going to say this for the 50th time this year.

This team absolutely stinks. I love how everyone is going to tout them as some bargain 6 seed. That's a bunch of BS. They don't play well together and don't handle the ball well. They haven't done anything all year and won't start now.

I like Nova's draw and think they will be focused for this tourney. Feel pretty good about my futures especially with UCLA in the Memphis bracket.

ive got all kinds of futures with msu. but their draw was horrible and they looked like dog shit in the 2h against iowa. they are still an incredibly talented team that has the pieces necessary to make a deep run. but im not holding my breath.

I dont care how talented they are. They stink. No ball handling, no winners, no heart. They couldnt close out a game if their lives depended on it.

they still fit the criteria for a dangerous tourney team.

perimeter shooting? check.
inside presence? check.
tourney experience? check.
free throw shooting? check.
well coached? check.
athletic? check

one area where they are inexplicably soft is on the glass. and thats contributed to their underachieving. was 2005 an aberration? this is basically the exact same team sans anderson. so iits hard to just write them off as having no chance. but i dont like their draw at all.

How do you figure GMan?

They get a weal 11 seed in MAson.

Then get to play close to home v a frosh laden UNC team that finally got a litle reality knocked into them. And they cant be worried about the Tenn/etc group. UNC v Mich State for a trio to Elite 8. I like their chances. But they aint beating UConn...

MSU does not impress me. Neitzel just dribbles around aimlessly almost refusing to take an open shot, and he can't defend quicker guards. Ager can't take more than two dribbles to his left without pushing off or losing control of the ball, good defensive teams like Ohio St. forced him that way and he was a non-factor. Brown is a complete underachiever, all the athleticism in the world but basically is invisible unless he can dunk on the break. Davis is a nice player, but usually fails to recognize double and triple teams that come quite often because guys like Walton and Brown can't hit a jumpshot, and Walton never even looks at the basket. Guys like Walton and Trannon wouldn't see time for most top notch teams. I just don't see it, but I've been wrong before.

trannon isn't on the floor because he's a great basketball player. he's on the floor because he's a tough motherfu.cker who is msu's best defender and izzo likes that. there's a reason football is his first sport (where, incidentally, he's pretty damn good as well). the one thing i definitely agree on is neitzel. last year i thought he could develop into a donnie mcgrath kind of player for them. sort of an obscure comparison, i know. but i like mcgrath's game. but neitzel is just not improving and he's killing them because of it.

you could be right bombs. but they get a big check mark next to talent and tourney experience, and sometimes thats enough to trump other deficiencies. they didnt get to the final four by accident last year. obviously each year must be evaluated individually. and something isnt 'right' with them. but its tough to completely shit on them and write them off.

Not taking a stance either way but you fellas have the rebounding stat wrong. Conference play Msu lead the league with a +4.2 rebounding margin
also:
#1 shooting pct.
#1 ft pct.
#1 assists per game

Not worthy of the hype the networks are giving them, but I hope they are right.

izzo has stated on multiple ocassions this year that this is the worst rebounding team he has ever had at michigan state. they might very well lead the conference statistically, but msu is normally a team that just destroys you on the boards. this year they aren't as relentless as normal and that's hurt them at times.

It's hard to say that the team stinks when its the exact same team that made the final four last year and was the only team to ever beat both Duke and Kentucky in the same NCAA tournament. Yes they have underachieved this year, but Izzo will have this senior team ready for the tourny as usual. Especially now that Matt Trannon is healthy. For some reason he seems to be the glue that keeps this team together.

Heaven, oh!!, this isn't it?!
I really liked Geo Mason and UNC to go far in this tourney. Then the draw comes out :scared Michigan State can beat both of these teams if they play like they did in the Big 10 tourney. I was there :SIB
The only reason they blew the second half against Iowa, was because of weary legs, but they still gave the Hawkeyes all they could handle. Im not sure about the arguments on the individual players? I watched Ager and Brown dominate Illinois. An incredible game, and if that kind of defense is played throughout the tourney, then look out who ever is in there path :scared Clem might be right

Respectfully,

Franky

I am sick and tired already of hearing, "Michigan State is a dangerous #6 seed." Are the Spartans any better than #6 West Virginia and/or #6 Oklahoma? Why not just say all of the #6 seeds are dangerous? Why single Michigan State out? The Spartans are a #6 seed for a reason, because they have been mediocre all season long. Don't be surprised if they lose to Mason. The Patriots plus the points is a gift!

They are better than Oklahoma. If they show to play they are better than West Virginia.

I think the bigger point is the draw....it is much more favorable for MSU than the other 6 seeds.

Whatever! Michigan State has nobody who can knock down an outside shot on a consistent basis. This will kill them in the tourney. Ager, Brown, and Neitzel? Give me a break! Not to mention, they have a football player (Trannon) playing the high post. And don't bring up Paul Davis! That guy is softer than the other side of my two- year old daughter's pillow.

Much like last year, Sparty got a very favorable draw. GMason is all banged up, and North Carolina is so damn young.

We've seen this before out of Izzo. They get to the round of 16, maybe further.
