now microsoft has bought skype for 8.5 billion,

this great ?? investment had total revenue of 860 million and loss around 7 million.

the company can grow but at this point in time most of the costomers are not paying for the service. this may change. also google and apple are working on the same application.

at least it cannot be worse than most of the other transactions,...well, also they saved billions when they brutal management could not get yahoo....yahoo management turned down their money. yahoo management and microsoft are very similar.

The Canadian pension fund put in 300million in 2009 when an investor group bought it for 1.9 billion. their portion of the sale will amount to roughly 1.1 billion. so every Canadian who collects a pension should thank Microsoft.

sure it will be a very small amount but every little bit helps.

many analysts and pundits, talk that is no money for microsoft since they had 25 billion in cash so what is 8.5 billion or so...and of coarse you would not want to pay that amount to investors in the way of a higher regular dividend.

I do not own micorsoft but hope it works out, I beleive management may one day find out they run a utilty, however by that time it will be tooooo late.

they should pay a div of 4-5%,

thanks

DTB do not own much in the technology sector there are only two holdings I have owned for more than six months, open text otc on Toronto and IBM.

IBM own, and otc have options covered against the position. they have done well, though other tech plays have done better.

Nokia is trying to find its way it looks cheap pe 11.03 and yield 6.68%, will have to look at it since the yield is there.

however the stock is not acting well, actually 8.16 high 11.75 low 7.75, would like it if the stock moved in the correct direction.

same goes for a number of tech companies Dell 15.41 high 16.96 low 11.34 pe 11.49

RIMM 43.147 pe 7.79 high 70.54 low 42.53, it they meet their guidance, a big question got a company growing at 20-30% revenue and trading less than 7X next years earnings.

HPQ 36.01 49.39 35.44 pe 8.87 yield .89%

now HPQ and Dell are in the business that is challenged and the tablets are going to eat into laptop, and maybe largely replace them going forward, time will tell.

they will make tablet along with dozens of others, Apple is the leader of coarse.
the two want to get into services, like IBM if they can the stocks will go up.

more likley to buy dell now, but will wait and see.

NOK and RIMM are both cheap however when they report they have often had bad news and missed revenue and earnings numbers.

will have a look at nok, but would like to see their stocks behave better...

as strange as this might sound would like to buy the stock 10% higher on the back of good news and numbers.

many of these stocks, these four have been value traps.
