Milan teams the favorites in Italian Soccer
Aug. 21, 2007

The Italian Serie A soccer season is about to kick off and betED.com is offering odds on which team will emerge as the 2007-08 Italian Football champion.

betED.com has the two Milan-based teams duking it out for top spot, with Inter Milan a slight favorite at +125 and AC Milan right behind at +175.

Juventus, which was relegated to Serie B last season because of the match-fixing scandal that rocked Italian soccer, is back in Serie A and is +550 to win the championship. Roma (+850) and Fiorentino (+3000) round out the top 5 clubs.

Inter Milan won the scudetto ? or the ?small shield? ? as Serie A champs last season. They have a great chance of repeating thanks largely to their depth.

David Suazo and Christian Chivu are the two big (and controversial) signings of the summer, and add even more to Inter Milan?s depth chart. Inter had little competition last year, but the teams banished because of he scandal are back are will give Inetr a challenge.

AC Milan Coach Carlo Ancelotti did not sign any major players this summer but the current European Champions are rumored to have their eyes set on Samuel Eto'o and former player Andriy Shevchenko.

Juventus look strong after strengthening the squad over the summer. With the influx of new signings coupled with Claudio Ranieri taking over at the helm, Juventus look likely to make an impact in the League with some old faces such as Del Piero, Nedved, Trezeguet and Buffon still at the club.

Roma, under the careful management of Luciano Spalletti, have brought in some top players such as Juan from Bayer Leverkusen and Mauro Esposito from Cagliari.

And Fiorentina lost Luca Toni to Bayern Munich but his departure has been filled with the arrival of new signing Christian Viera, who should link up well with current players Pazzini and Mutu. Despite a glut of summer signings the squad still lacks strength and the team could struggle throughout the season if key players get injured.
