Last Weekend...
Most ?sharp players? don?t normally lay the wood on large college football favorites, but this was a reality last Thursday as the ?sharps? jumped all over Michigan -24, whereas we immediately moved the line up to 26 since the sources of the bets were well respected. Opposition came at +26 and we moved it back to 25?, and on game day the line moved upwards once again, closing at 27 at most shops. Another game where sharps played both sides was the BYU /Wyoming game, with early sharp money coming on Wyoming at +4?, whereas we moved the line down to 3? and got hit by another syndicate, the line stayed on 4 for a long period of time, and then dropped like a rock down to -3 at game time. In terms of action, Millennium?s two biggest games on Saturday were on the Navy/Notre Dame game and the LSU/ Alabama game. We settled at -3 on the LSU game and received equal action on both sides. On the Notre Dame game the sportsbook received heavy action on straight wagers on Navy, but most of the teaser action was on Notre Dame.
The NFL weekend was full of surprises as Minnesota and Green Bay were outright winners, a disappointing result for our teaser players who like to tease down the favorites. Once again there was opposing action by sharp groups on the Washington/Tampa Bay game. One sharp group sided with the Redskins driving the line up from a pick to Washington at a slight favorite of -1 ?. Other ?respected? bettors came back with the Bucs, moving the line down to Washington -1, where we held till kickoff. The game was decided unconventionally, with HC Gruden deciding to go for the two-point conversion, avoiding overtime, resulting in a slim one point victory for the Bucs. The Sunday night affair involving Cleveland and Pittsburgh was a major disappointment for the sharp bettors who drove the line down to Pittsburgh -7 early Sunday morning. The ?public? came out on top in this game as Pittsburgh covered the spread easily. Teaser decisions seemed to come and go in this game, as with the Steelers ahead by 13 HC Cowher elected to run the ball from the 10 yard line, instead of kicking a field goal. It seemed like he was not trying to run the score up, as the Steelers have to face the Browns once again this season in Cleveland, but the rookie running back found his way into the endzone, even after it appeared that he would be stopped in the backfield. Teaser players on the Cleveland side received gratification, as on fourth down on the ensuing drive the Browns completed a pass for a touchdown, sending all teaser players home with a victory on both sides.
