As we predicted last week, Phil Steele?s College Game of the Year, North Carolina, moved from +5 down to +3 on game day immediately after its release. This game attracted most of the attention from our clients on Saturday. During the week there were several games in college football that had sharp wagering. Some of our ?sharps? drove down the line on the Purdue/Michigan St. game from +5 to 4 on Thursday, and we were the first shop that had -4 on Michigan St. The public jumped aboard on Saturday closing the line down to 3. A perfect example of sharp guys on one side and the public on the other side was the Iowa /Northwestern game. We got hit heavy by sharp money on Iowa driving the line to 3 -115, and then on Saturday the public took back the other side. Northwestern was trailing by 13 with only four minutes remaining when the game turned out to be one of the greatest comebacks in college football for this year.
There?s been a big swing in the betting habits of the squares this year in college football. In years past it seemed like they would be all over a team like Florida at home laying the wood against Vanderbilt. But nowadays the bettor has become more sophisticated, and is taking back the huge numbers, but still seems to be teasing down the favorites. The same betting habits were observed in the Tennessee/Notre Dame game, as most of the bettors took Tennessee plus the points on straight wagers, but were on Notre Dame with their teasers.
NFL on Sunday?where should I start??by saying not a single underdog won?...or the fact that ONLY ONE dog covered the spread ( Houston +13)??or that your luck really had to be down to miss cashing in on a teaser wager, as only Tampa Bay, Detroit, and Arizona failed to appear on a winning teaser ticket. All in all, it was a great day for the betting public, and not all clients worldwide can state that they had their money riding with a Publicly Traded company. When sportsbooks around the world have days when the bettor rules, you should be playing with Millennium Sports ?as a financially sound establishment like ours never has a problem answering the bell on Monday mornings with all of our client?s payout requests!
