We have several kids in our neighborhood that are out at the first sign of a snow flake, knocking on doors shovels in hand.
Good to hear. That's rare these days, around here anyway.
Problem is it turns into a turf war. Sharks and Jets style. Damn if you flip your commitment to which group of kids shovels your driveway and walk, you may just be cleaning up an egged house next.
On Saturday, everyone of my neighbors were out shoveling their driveways. You could look down the street and there was activity in every driveway at the same time. I didn't do shit to my driveway. I rolled out of the garage in 13 inches of snow and drove out of the neighborhood with no problem.
What am I missing? Why is it a good idea to have your driveway free and clean of snow?
I taught you well. The shit melts and if I can get in and out I'm just fine.
Still may not be a big deal but after you drive over it a bit and then you get a warmish day can become crazy slick from all that compression. Especially if you get back to back days of above freezing during day then below at night.

Fresh air and exercise would be what your missing. I usually do the snow shoveling with my 9 year old son, which always turns into a snowball fight and a snow wrestling match. Father and son bonding, which is another plus!
In our town you have 12 hours after the snow falls to clear the sidewalks of snow and ice or the borough will fine you. If someone falls on your property you are at fault.

what about elderly people living alone?....does your town provide the defib paddles?
I live in what I call "the retirement community" there is only one house on our block besides me that is young and they have a little boy. The rest are 70+. They all have people who come shovel them out. Most are widows. Last year the neighbor on the end had some sort of issue while shoveling and when we got home from work my daughter and I went down and finished his sidewalk. His wife stayed home and didn't even go to the hospital. She told our other neighbor that if he died it was a wasted trip in the snow and she wasn't going out in the weather. A majority of people in this "end of town" are retired folk.what about elderly people living alone?....does your town provide the defib paddles?
