We have several kids in our neighborhood that are out at the first sign of a snow flake, knocking on doors shovels in hand.

Good to hear. That's rare these days, around here anyway.

Problem is it turns into a turf war. Sharks and Jets style. Damn if you flip your commitment to which group of kids shovels your driveway and walk, you may just be cleaning up an egged house next.

On Saturday, everyone of my neighbors were out shoveling their driveways. You could look down the street and there was activity in every driveway at the same time. I didn't do shit to my driveway. I rolled out of the garage in 13 inches of snow and drove out of the neighborhood with no problem.

What am I missing? Why is it a good idea to have your driveway free and clean of snow?

Still may not be a big deal but after you drive over it a bit and then you get a warmish day can become crazy slick from all that compression. Especially if you get back to back days of above freezing during day then below at night.

I taught you well. The shit melts and if I can get in and out I'm just fine.

This. For sidewalks it is out of courtesy to those that will be using them. For your driveway, not clearing it hs the potential for it to become quite slick and iced over.

Where it is real F ing COLD
Depends on where ya live and what ya drive, if we get snow, guess what? It isn't leaving til April so it has to be moved. I drive a 2013 Elantra, it's not getting through more than 6 inches of snow. I have 95 Ford F 150 4 wheel drive, it's going to take a lot of drifting snow to stop it. If we get snow late in the year, it will melt but it's still nice to have someone plow out your driveway.

Fresh air and exercise would be what your missing. I usually do the snow shoveling with my 9 year old son, which always turns into a snowball fight and a snow wrestling match. Father and son bonding, which is another plus!

the guy in the cul-de sac in back`s kids came down to help dig out...I had both our cars on the car pad parked nose-to-ass.....-one`s 14 and the other`s around 6 or 7,,,

I asked em to do what they could to dig the little car behind the jeep out and went in to work on the deck.....

I come back out and the 7 year old is standing on the roof of the car jumping up and down......and it`s a sun roof.........:142squint

In our town you have 12 hours after the snow falls to clear the sidewalks of snow and ice or the borough will fine you. If someone falls on your property you are at fault.

Agreed, whatever!!! How is that a law? What if I just had surgery, what if I am on vacation away from the crap, what if I can't get back in my neighborhood to shovel it? What if Chicky doesn't want to do what Sprintyboy says for her to do for once? We all know she shovels it, not him. What if???? They are endless. Borough, shmorough.....would not stand in a court if you could not do it. Walk around the property. Sheesh!

I live in what I call "the retirement community" there is only one house on our block besides me that is young and they have a little boy. The rest are 70+. They all have people who come shovel them out. Most are widows. Last year the neighbor on the end had some sort of issue while shoveling and when we got home from work my daughter and I went down and finished his sidewalk. His wife stayed home and didn't even go to the hospital. She told our other neighbor that if he died it was a wasted trip in the snow and she wasn't going out in the weather. A majority of people in this "end of town" are retired folk.
