Yesterday's Recap:
Astros Over 10 1/2 -107 Win
Cardinals -133 Win
A's +110 Win
Marlins +140 Win
Tigers Over 8 -107 Win

I played this one on the overnight:

Play: Marlins Vs. Braves Over
Line: Over 8 1/2 -120
Pitchers: Chuck Smith Vs. Marquis
I had this game going over at 9 1/2 and was going to pass on 10. I just about did a cartwheel when I saw 8 1/2. Chuck Smith has a road ERA of 6.17 (16 ER in 23.1 IP). This is Marquis' first start of the season, which on the surface doesn't mean a whole lot. But, when you see he pitched an inning on 6/16/01 and threw 22 pitches and the Braves bullpen is overworked, you are looking at pitching fatigue that should equal runs. Should be plenty of runs to be had from both sides.

Good luck everyone and will be back with more plays later,

HC

Better double check - I think Marquis started earlier this year against a great pitcher. He pitched 5 or 6 super innings b/4 being taken out. Braves later lost that game.

.....adding these two more.....

Play: Cubs Vs. Cardinals Under
Line: Under 8 1/2 -107
Pitchers: Bere Vs. Morris
I am playing the under here because of Matt Morris plain and simple. Morris is 6-1 at home with an ERA of 1.68; also this game will more than likely be 8 1/2 innings. My worries here are the Cubs bullpen and the Cardinals bullpen with Veres pitching in I believe three straight games for the Cardinals. If all works right Morris will pitch close to a complete game.

Play: Red Sox Vs. Devil Rays Over
Line: Over 9 -115
Pitchers: Wakefield Vs. Rekar
First I am playing a hunch here that Wakefield will struggle. Third start of the season tonite, gave up 1 and 3 earned in the first two.... looking at four or five this evening. Boston pen has given up a few runs lately as well. Rekar at home is a lack luster 1-4 with a 4.30 ERA; hopefully Devil Rays bullpen will return to form and stink up the joint as well.

Good luck all,
HC

....adding yet another.....

Play: Mets (Trachsel)
Line: -1 1/2 +135
Opponent: Expos (Mattes)
Momentum play here on the Mets. They are picking up steam and it is now or never time for them. Trachsel even though his record doesn't show it hasn't pitched that bad. The Expos are team in turmoil once again, now with the Urbina trade talks. I didn't want to lay big chalk, so looked for a better return on the run line.

Marquis went head up with Kevin Brown and left the game at 0-0 which they lost 1-0 on a walk off homer by Sheffield. I remember because I had the under. Also be careful he is the real deal as a starter. He threw in the mid-high 90's in the 6th or 7th inning before he was taken out. Braves and Marlins are 2 teams you dont want to play too many over on at all.

Nole,
While I agree with you that Marquis has a bright future in the bigs, this certain situation where the total is 8 1/2 to me figures to be an over play. Not that Marquis won't pitch well, but, I can't see him working into the seventh inning because a couple of days ago he just threw 22 pitches in a relief stint. So, I am counting on an average Braves bullpen to enter and give up some runs as well. Also, I like the over when you figure in that Chuck Smith has given up 16 ER in 23.1 IP on the road, and as IE has listed on his page the Marlins bullpen is in cylce to give up a couple runs. But, all that being said this is baseball and it could be a 1-0 nothing game. But I am willing to lay money that tonite, in this one, 9 or more runs will be scored.......Come to think about it, I did lay money on that opinion.

Good luck,
HC
