In no way shape or form am I an advocate of laying this high of a price. At this price range we have to win 65% of our games but today's circumstances warrant it. We have a great pitcher going up against a terrible pitcher, a good home team going up against a terrible road team.
Today's pitching match up looks to be a total mismatch. In Ben Sheets' last three games he is 1-1 with a 2.14 era and very low whip of 0.76. He has gone 21 innings giving up just 12 hits and 5 earned runs. In the same time frame he has allowed just 1 home run, struck out 18 and walked only 4. Aaron Cook on the other hand has been in terrible form his last three games. He is 0-2 while carrying an era of 9.39, a whip of 2.02, has pitched 15 innings giving up 22 hits and 16 runs. Teams are getting on base at an average of .419 against him.
This game also has the offenses as a mismatch as well in favor of the Brewers. While Colorado's offensive numbers overall are excellent with them coming in at number 2 in the NL in the runs scored category but most of that is due to them playing at Coors Field. In the runs scored category when Colorado is at home they are number 1 in the NL with 231 runs but when they are on the road they are ranked 15th in the NL and have scored only 129 runs. That explains their road record which is a lousy 9-26 and averaging just 3.67 runs per game while on the road.
The bullpens in this game favor Milwaukee as well. Colorado's bullpen era overall is 6.12 with a high whip of 1.68 while Milwaukee's bullpen has an era of 3.60 and a fine whip of 1.26.
Even though the price is very high but with Sheets on the hill I believe it is a good play.
