UNDER 9 PITTSBURGH ?123:
Pretty much a nice combination of things have me on this Under. Let?s take a look.
First of all, none of these teams last 7 meetings have gone over 9 runs. Also Both offenses seem to be struggling a bit. Pittsburgh is hitting just .236 as a team while the Mets are hitting just .216 as a team.
Would not surprise me to see David Cone pitch a nice game today. He?s the type of pitcher that is tough if you haven?t seem him for a while. This showed some in his first 2 starts this season. He pitched 5 awesome innings in his first start vs the Expos only to get rocked by that same team in his next start.
Cone will be facing a Pittsburgh team that will also be without their best hitter in Brian Giles.
Suppan gets the start for Pittsburgh, and I think you?ll see a good game from him as well. Suppan has a 2.38 career ERA vs the Mets in 2 starts and seems to have his groundball stuff working right off the bat this season. You remember the first half of last season, all the home runs he allowed, well he only allowed 10 the entire 2nd half last season and so far through 2 games this year, he has not allowed any. In case you?re wondering he?s been right up their the last couple of seasons in groundball/flyball ratio. In 2001 it was 1.62 to 1, in 2002 it was 1.60 to 1 and this season it?s even better at 1.85 to 1. The number of homers should be limited in this one.
Also, the home ump in this game is Eddings which will be beneficial to both pitchers today. He has been known to have one of the larger strikezones. So far this season, Edding?s strike % is at 64.3% so both pitchers should benefit here.
Basically, it?s a nice combination of factors that set up for a low scoring affair?at least low enough to keep this one under the posted total of 9.
Good luck :thumb:
