Yesterday: 2-1 (+80)
Season: 27-15 (+1055)
Near miss on the total last night prevented a perfect evening, but any day I'm up instead of down is fine with me. Here's what I'm playing tonight:
ATL -115 : For an excellent write-up of this game, please see the post by RobertBIrish. He says everything I probably would have said and more, so I won't duplicate it here.
NYM/PHI Under 8 -125 : Two teams with hot pitchers and slumping hitters take the field tonight in what should be a low scoring affair. Padilla has come out of nowhere to post a 5-3 record this season with an ERA of 2.90. His lifetime ERA vs. the Mets is even better. In 9 relief appearances (14 1/3 innings), Padilla is 2-0 against the Mets with an ERA of 2.51. D'Amico has a similar story. He is 3-3 on the season with an ERA of 3.33. In his only start against the Phillies, D'Amico only allowed 1 run in 6 2/3 innings (ERA: 1.35). In his last start, D'Amico pitched a brilliant 2-hit shut-out of the Dodgers. The Mets ERA overall is only 3.08, so they've been getting good relief work at the end of games as well.
The hitters are a different story. The Mets' top hitter, Edgardo Alfonzo (season average of .326, average over last 7 days = .571) may be out again tonight with a bad hamstring. Jeremy Burnitz is averaging only .130 over his past 14 games. For the Phillies, Lee is has started slumping recently (.166 in last 5 games) while Anderson has been in a funk a little longer (.216 over last 11). Neither of these teams has exactly been lighting up the scoreboards, with each team averaging exactly 4 runs per game for the month of May. With the pitchers involved in today's matchup, I think the scoring should be below average and that's all I need.
Good luck.
