Heading into the final week of August, the division title race in the AL East is really starting to heat up in light of Boston?s current four-game losing streak and the New York Yankees? 2-1 series victory against Seattle at home over the weekend.
Boston?s lead is down to just 2.5 games at 73-57 with New York sporting an overall record of 70-59. The Red Sox will go on the road for three games against Toronto starting on Monday night before making the much anticipated trip to Yankee Stadium this Thursday for the start of an extended four-game series against New York that is bound to have a big impact on the AL East race. The Yankees will be at home against Cleveland for three games prior to the showdown against Boston.
Another division title race that remains neck-and-neck down the stretch is the NL Central. The Chicago Cubs continue to cling to a two-game lead over Milwaukee and a 4.5-game lead over St. Louis at 69-60 heading into this week?s three-game set at home against Pittsburgh. The Cubs lost two of three to Philadelphia on the road this past weekend after winning five of their previous six games.
Give credit to the Brewers (68-63) for being the first team to win a series against the Los Angeles Dodgers since early June. They outscored the Dodgers 6-2 in the last two games after losing Friday?s contest 3-1 as heavy +165 home underdogs. The total has now stayed UNDER AMERICAS BOOKIE closing line in nine of Milwaukee?s last 10 games. The Brewers will play host to St. Louis this week in a quick two-game matchup starting on Tuesday.
The Cardinals (65-65) continue to remain in this race despite a 4-6 record over their last 10 games. They lost two of three to Tampa Bay at home this past weekend after dropping two of three home games against San Diego last week. St. Louis is now 37-31 at home this season overall.
The Miami Marlins have been one of the hottest teams in baseball over their last 10 games with a record of 8-2 and along with Arizona, Baltimore and Cleveland they are tied for the longest current winning streak in the Majors at four games.
