YTD RECORD: 40-20 (+20.94 UNITS)
Going with just one play for Monday:
HOUSTON -143 (OSWALT VS PEREZ LISTED)
HOUSTON:
Houston starter, Roy Oswalt, looks like he's found his stride having won his last 3 starts. In those 3 starts, he's given up less hits than innings pitched and in his last 2 starts, he's been even better having given up just 9 hits in 16 total innings without giving up a home run. He also has only walked 1 batter while striking out 17 in the last couple.
Oswalt has a lifetime ERA of 2.89 vs Pittsburgh which includes 12 starts and should have an easy time keeping this current weak hitting Pirate club in check. Also, noticed that not one single player on this current Pirate team has hit a home run off him.
Pittsburgh's starter, Oliver Perez, has yet to show his talent this season and until he does, you must take a look at betting against him especially considering the fact that he won't get much run support this season. I read where Perez admitted to getting screwed up from this off-season. He was told not to throw much and this was the first time where he hasn't pitched winter ball.
Looking at Perez's 4 starts this season in which he has pitched a total of 19 innings, he has given up 25 hits including 6 home runs and has walked a whopping 16 batters.
Big bullpen advantage also goes to Houston in this one. The Houston Pen has an ERA of around 2.50 for the season while the Pittsburgh pen has an ERA of over 5.00 for the season and when you look at the fact that Perez is only averaging around 5 innings per start while Oswalt is averaging around 7 innings per start, we see a clear advantage to Houston here.
Bottom line, there's going to be times during the season where betting Oliver Perez may have a lot of value, but until he gets things worked out you have to look at going against him. A pitcher that's off form mixed with a dismal offense is not a good combination....Houston is the only way to go in this game.
Good luck to all :thumb:
