Stl?..paper
Fred Brathwaite, last seen in action on Jan. 1 in a 2-1 loss to New Jersey, will be in goal Monday night when the Blues face the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim at 7 p.m. at Savvis Center.

"It will be good to get back into a game," Brathwaite said. "Obviously, I can't be disappointed with not playing. Johnnie's been playing excellent, the guys have been playing really well. It's just too bad I have to go in under a circumstance like this."

Wild?..paper
With three defenseman -- Brad Bombardir, Brad Brown and Willie Mitchell -- on the shelf because of injuries, the Wild recalled defenseman Travis Roche from Houston. Roche, signed as a free agent out of the University of North Dakota at the end of last season, has 11 goals and 12 assists with 70 penalty minutes in 42 games with Houston this season.
Mitchell, who missed his third consecutive game Saturday because of a bruised wrist, was placed on injured reserve. However, he might be able to return next week. The news may not be as good for Brown, who is out because of a sprained right knee. It's possible he could miss at least a week.
Zholtok sits
In a mild surprise, Wild center Sergei Zholtok, the team's fourth-leading scorer with 25 points in 51 games, was a healthy scratch Saturday for the first time this season.
Zholtok has no goals and only one assist and is a minus-3 in the past eight games.
With Zholtok sitting, forward Stacy Roest was back in the lineup after sitting nine of the past 12 games. Forward Sylvain Blouin also was a healthy scratch.

From atl journal

Atlanta is 5-2-1-1 in the last nine games after losing in overtime Saturday.
The 12 points accumulated during this stretch is tied for the best nine-game stretch in franchise history, equaled only by last season's 6-3 in December. The 12-point, nine-game stretch is in stark contrast to earning only 10 points in the previous 21 games (3-14-3-1).

The biggest turnaround has come defensively. In the last 12 games, the Thrashers have yielded more than three goals only twice (both in losses to Philadelphia, 7-4 and 6-3). Since being pulled from a start against the Flyers and sitting out the next game, goalie Milan Hnilicka has started eight games, posting a 2.21 goals-against average and .938 save percentage.
Hnilicka has faced 292 shots in the last eight games (36.5 per game). Despite a first-period panic attack against New Jersey Tuesday, the defense has been better about clearing traffic and rebounds in the slot area. Neutral-zone checking also has improved. Odd-man rushes by opponents are far less frequent.

Atlanta enters tonight's game looking for its first career victory over the Coyotes (0-5)

Tonight's game is the eighth of nine contests against Pacific Division opponents this season for Atlanta, winless in the previous seven matchups (0-7-0-0

paper reporting burke tonight

from az republic....Coach Francis has already made a few decisions for today's game against the Thrashers, who have the fewest wins (13) in the NHL.

After toying with the idea of having red-hot Robert Esche start his eighth straight game in goal, Francis will give the nod to Sean Burke, who's back from a groin injury. Left wing Brad May, meanwhile, is also expected to play after missing 10 games because of a cracked sternum. Center Denis Pederson is also back after a two-game leave of absence.

Mix them in with the Coyotes' two newest players, left wings Brian Savage and Andrei Nazarov, who were acquired Friday in separate deals, and Francis and his staff are forced to play "Scrabble" with their line combinations.

Everything could change, but Savage figures to stay on a line with center Daymond Langkow and Shane Doan. They played well together during Saturday's 3-2 win at Columbus.

"We had a lot of chances, and we could have had a couple of goals," Savage said. "It was only our first game together, but I liked the way things turned out."

The Coyotes' other top line of Ladislav Nagy, Michal Handzus and Claude Lemieux should stay intact, but the other two lines will probably be shuffled for the rest of the season. As a result, Daniel Briere, the team's leading goal-scorer with 18, may slip to the fourth line.
