Atlanta Hawks @ LA Clippers
Usually i would have trouble backing a team that has not won a game yet this year, however the Clippers are in a position tonight that I found very profitable last year in the NBA. I found that teams that blew a lead at home, and lost the game and plays the next game at home as a favorite usually rebounds very well. The Clippers built a strong double digit lead to the warriors before losing a game in OT. Some numbers also show that the clippers rebound well after a loss as a home favorite (3-2 su and 4-1 ats). I also look for paticular players to get the job done. Elton Brand comitted a costly foul in OT, and then missed a jumper at the buzzer. I also look for Lamar Odom to play well tonight as after a great night in which he just missed a triple-double, coach Alvin gentry was compelled to say "Lamar hasn't played well." Although he is listed as probable with a foot injury I look for him to get the start.

The Hawks on the other hand come in off a huge win against the Miami Heat, and take to the road for a four game road trip against some tough teams to include the jazz, suns, spurs, and of course, the clippers. The Hawks are just miserable on the road as they are just 7-35 on the road over the last season, and are just 4-25 straight on the road vs. the western conference. In the first game of a road trip that consists of at least three games they are just 1-10 su, and 1-9-1 ats. The most telling number for the Hawks maybe how they do after a 1 game winning streak SU and ATS. In this spot they are just 5-18 SU, and 3-20 ATS. The Hawks were called on to play agressive on the defensive side of the ball, and I look for them to be worn down tonight. I told them to be aggressive," Kruger said, adding he wanted an active defense

Finally for those of you who have not watched a clipper game, especially at home (5-1 ATS L6) it is an electric environment. The Clip Joint is actually some serious home court advantage for this team, if you can get past Bill Walton doing the game you'll be just fine.

This game would have been a four unit play, but with the possibility od Odom sitting out and my recent slide, I'll stick it at a three unit. I still would play this for three units even if Odom does not play.

Clippers -4

If you like the clippers, I would get them as soon as possible, I have seen it as high as -6 in some places.

JT,

The Don Best injury report says that Odom is doubtful with a foot injury. Also, I'm hearing that he has been suspended for 5 games for violating a substance abuse policy. If so, does the suspension start tonight? That being said, I might just take the Hawks and the points.

Anyone hear any of this as well?

Odom has been suspended you are correct. Great Info Thanks. Here is the story..

http://espn.go.com/nba/news/2001/1105/1273968.html

I expect him to begin serving tonight as this his second offense, but have not seen any info to back that up. I think this line should plunge, so if you do like the hawks you should get them now. I however still like the clip here.

Great Info,

First Quarter Update:
The Hawks look a little bit out of sync, and are relying on Nazr Muhammad for their scoring output.
The clips are looking for someone to pick up the scoring in the abscence of Odom, and it looks as though Magette has answered the call early. Also the candi man showed flashes of a good night , before picking up two fouls early. The clips look to be the fresher team early. The game is on pace for the Over.

Just a few notes.

The Clippers are making this one into a track meet, and if it wasn't for a few sloppy passes, I think this one would be a blowout already. The Hawks are getting an offensive suprise from muhammed who has lit up the scoreboard for 18 points, and 8 boards, but have not given him much support as they rest of the team is just 10-32, to include abdur-rahim who is just 1-6.

The clippers also have a couple of silent stars with odom suspended and brand just 1-4 from the floor, but that is because brand is getting the double teams tonight, which should come to an end shortly becasue he is getting help from several teammates.

Maggette is 4-6 and mcinnis is 3-3, and olowokandi is cleaning up on the boards with seven. More importantly the team is converting from the charity stripe, as they are 17-20 from the line and they have gone nine more times than the hawks. This will increase in the second half, and the clippers should get easier baskets in transition as the hawks begin to tire.

Two Unit Selection
Clippers -1/2

Thanks, JT. Watching the game but needed your impetus to add the HT play (pick) to my -4 for the game.

As I've mentioned before, I think the Clips will have line value at home and might have particular value when the public perceives that they have lost a key player.

They have a great bench full of kids eager for more playing time and Magette and others can step up when they're needed.

The fact that they were playing the Hawks didn't hurt either

Tuesday, Seattle traveling West to East and off a tough 2 OT win over Orlando will get beaten by dds in Miami and the line will rise by gametime.

I think that Orlando will also be tired and fall to the Spurs by 10.

I watched the 2nd half of this game last night because I coat-tailed you, and I noticed a couple of things. It seems to me McInnis plays freeze-out against Piatkowski. I don't know too much about this team, but it seemed like there was bad blood between the two. Each time Piatkowski made a small mistake, McInnis acted like a little kid on the playground and stomped his feet and shot a disgusted look over at him.

The reason I bring this up is that I feel for a young team like the Clips to succeed this year, they are going to have to play as a very tight-knit group. I think this may have an effect on some of their outcomes if it is not cleared away.

Did you notice anything?

BTW, great job on the 2-0 night!

You're right, the Clips are deep with young talent as no one mentioned the best player on the floor last night...Quentin Richardson.

Here's a tidbit for ya: Jacque Vaughn is 0 for his last 22! He should have suited up for the Clippers last night.
