MR. SNEAKS, I NEED H E L P ! ! !

I LIKE ORLANDO + 2 1/2 (1 UNIT)
GOLDEN ST -4 (3-4 UNITS)

I DO REAL POORLY WITH TOTALS
ORLANDO/UTAH OVER
GOLDEN ST/MEMPHIS UNDER (LIKE THIS A LOT)

I'VE LEARNED OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS, DON'T BET, UNTIL "THE GREAT ONE" SPEAKS, MR. JT SNEAKS:)

THIS IS MY FIRST YEAR TRYING TO HANDICAP BASKETBALL. I'M USING A MATHEMATICAL APPROACH, BASICALLY, I'M USING THE SAME MATHEMATICAL THEORIES AS I USE FOR FOOTBALL, AND I'VE BEEN HANDICAPPING FOOTBALL FOR 20 PLUS YEARS. I'M 8-6 YTD HANDICAPPING NBA, AND 1-0 NCAA. I LOST TWO SOLID PICKS (WHAT I THOUGHT WERE SOLID PICKS) YESTERDAY, THAT'S WHY I'M SEEKING YOU. I NEED HELP WITH MY HANDICAPPING "THINKING."

lucky2U,

Thanks for the compliments they really mean alot---

My first bit of advice is if you are bad at playing the totals, then don't. If you are new at handicapping the NBA, it doesn't show your record is above .500, and it looks as though your mathematical system may have something to it early in the season. My approach to handicapping the NBA involves many factors, but I think one of the most important factors is watching the teams play, sounds simple, but it works. Usually the person that can handicap a team the best is a fan of that team because he watches them day in and day out, and knows everything you need to know about that paticualr team. The problem usually comes in when they let their heart get in the way, and they always bet for the home team, but that is another discussion in itself.

Also after a win or loss it is important you look into why you won or loss. Maybe you did not realize a team could rebound well, or you lost a game because of an abundant amount of turnovers. You want to look into the wins and losses to learn from the mistakes, and take advantage of the wins, and when you could apply them again in the future.
As for tonight's games, they are not that easy.I just started looking over these selections, and they are not my final plays.

Warriors @ Memphis
Looks like a good spot for the grizz to get in the win column, but the injuries are a telling sign for this club, especially Dickerson. I would keep a close eye here to see who plays. The warriors are actually playing solid ball of late, and are beating bad teams, as evident by the pounding they gave the Wiz, and the Knicks. They are getting great guard play by Hughes, and they are also rebounding the ball well.

Orlando @ Utah
Initial instinct says to back the Jazz at home after getting beat up by the raptors in front of the home crowd. However I can't get a grip on this jazz team and how they are affected by the new defensive changes. The new changes allow teams to better defend the pick and roll which is the jazz strong point, but that depends on how the magic will play against them tonight. I also think the magic have the manpower to keep up with the jazz especially from a scoring stand point.

Still crunching numbers and i will be back. lucky2U I hope this helped in some way, and please fell free to ask questions at any time.

Thanks,

JT

Cogent anylyses all around.

BIG question one has to ask before taking the Griz tonight: If you were Golden State, would you want to be the first team to lose to the "new" Memphis team this year?

I would not take a 4 point dog (Griz) unless I thought they were going to win outright (this is in sync with a few 'cappers' idea of taking the ML as best value with small dogs in the NBA.)

I watched the Magic lose to LA last night. For the one hundredth time, I will repeat my thoughts about the two disparate teams in Los Angeles: The Lakers can name the score almost any night they want to and the Clips will have HC value until the linesmakers figure out that Odom is a replaceable cog in the machine.

Having said this, I think that playing these 2 games btb and leaving sea level will hurt Orlando and make both the Jazz and the under the best plays tonight.

(Wrong forum, but is Fordham any good this year?)

THANKS FOR RESPONDING.
WOW! ! ! THE WEAKEST PART OF MY HANDICAPPING SKILLS, YOU'VE JUST EXPLAINED TO ME. WHICH IS THE REVIEWING, AND ANALYZING YOUR PAST BETS. THAT'S THE FIRST STEP I'M GOING TO TAKE, IN TRYING TO BETTER MY HANDICAPPING SKILLS.
THIS WEEK, I'M GOING TO MAKE A POINT OF REVIEWING EVERY GAME I BET, AND SOME OF THE GAMES I DON'T BET.
THANKS, ONCE AGAIN, AND YOU CAN EXPECT ANOTHER REPLY FROM ME, SOMETIME IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

JT, I DON'T KNOW HOW YOU CAME BY YOUR SELECTIONS, BUT IN THE 2 WEEKS I'VE BEEN FOLLOWING YOUR POST'S, YOU'VE MADE A BELIEVER OUT OF ME. I'M GOING TO ANALYZE THESE SELECTIONS A BIT MORE THOROUGHLY, AND I MAY HAVE SOME QUESTIONS FOR YOU.
AT THIS POINT, ALL I CAN SAY IS THANKS.

bigbucksfan,

Amen to that we should praise our fellow cappers more than bashing, excellent job and I agree 100%

Phoenix and Mr. Mo,

I am not a teaser player, but if I was they look pretty solid to me.

lucky2U,
Regardless of how good or hot a capper is, unless you are in a severe slump, or pressed for time, I never suggest blindly following a capper. Always try to do some research, and feel free to fire questions whenever you feel the need. I will do my best to answer them However I must warn you once the games start, i am usually watching them and will not be around the forum until halftime or after the game.

Also a final note to the forum: Those who followed me last year, know that I take a vacation several times during the hoop season to avoid burnout and get a rest, and this year is no different. In fact I will leave this Friday for ten days, and so my post will be limited.(Any madjackers in Boston I'm headed that way!

Thanks,

JT

SNEAKS, I WON'T BET BLINDLY. HAVE DONE THAT IN THE PAST, AND LOST. WHAT YOU'RE MAKING ME DO IS RE-EVALUATE SOME OF MY THINKING.
WE'LL TALK MORE AS THE SEASON PROGRESSES,
I'M HERE FOR THE LONG HAUL

Hey Sneaks,

Who goosed Orlando and Utah in the 4th qtr last night? I didn't watch the game but saw the scores, the under looked solid, then wham, a ton of points in the 4th. I see today there were 65 points. Were there a lot of late fouls? Just curious if you saw the game. You're doing a great job in hoops this year, solid in the NFL as well (and this has been the toughest year in the NFL I believe I have ever seen).

Sneaks, keep it burning. You are right about taking breaks.

Gotta get rid of that "Vancouver" logo and get down with the "Blues" city.

Love reading your write-ups.
