Interesting game tonight as the 49ers travel to New York to face the Jets.

Everyone is speaking of emotion, playing a big role in tonight's game and they are right on the money as the New York crowd will be full of emotion and pulling together to root for the city of New York.

The jets were affected more than any other team in the NFL and spoke out about the reaction of the city, what it was like to see ground zero, and were the frontrunners when it came to not playing the week of the tragedy. I anticipate that it's going to be at least as emotional as it was in New England," Vinny Testaverde said, referring to the Jets' gut-wrenching return to the football field last week against the Patriots in Foxboro.

"I think it's going to be a tremendous atmosphere," Wayne Chrebet was saying as goose bumps rose on his bare arms. "Some of those people in that stadium cheering for us are going to be the firemen, police and rescue workers who risked their lives."

They put alot of time in effort in to helping the city and should be commended for their efforts. There is nothing the team wants more than to win this one for the city of New York, however wanting and doing are two different things.

One thing for sure is that the jets are having troubles with the new west coast offense and to make things a bit easier, the jets have announced they will make the ofense a bit more vanilla tonight, so you can expect a ton of curtis martin tonight. The niners have given good chunks of yardgae against J. Anderson and M. Faulk, and I see the same thing going on tonight in New York. We're a team still in the process of learning what to do on both sides of the ball," Edwards said. "I think this team has potential to get better and we're going to do that. We're going to get better. We're going to be better Monday night."

However I don't think that is an edge for the jets as much it is to go under the total. The jets look to water down the west coast by running which will take time off the clock and lean to long drives.

The niners on the other hand get an edge on the defensive side of the ball when linebacker peterson returns to the lineup tonight. I think this will make a substantial difference in a 49er defense that is a bit under rated. The niners slipped from 5th in defense to 20th, which is reasonable as I suspect anyone who faces the rams high octane offense may slip a bit in the rankings, just check out the dolphins "d".

I also look to the jets "D" to point out a weakness the niners may be able to take advantage of. The jets have a weakness in defense and it is on the front line where teams have been able to run against them. This is exactly where the niners will try to do to open up the passing which was plaqued by seven dropped passes last week. The question will be who is running the ball. hearst is expected to play after he got a concusion, and I look for him to be effective this evening along with rookie kevin barlow. The jets are looking to stop Garcia and the pass and they should have some success and therefore you will also see the niners trying to run the ball a bit more. Another point to the under.

Talented Quarterback jeff garcia has called this the biggest game he has ever played. This is big for us because it's our first Monday night game in two-and-a-half seasons," Garcia said. "We're excited about the opportunity to play on Monday night and hopefully rally with the Jets and put on a great show."

You can look for a very physical game tonight.
The Jets' style of offense is distinctly "smashmouth," centered around 205- pound running back Curtis Martin. They come at you with a big, bruising offensive line.

"I told the team they are going to be physical," 49ers coach Steve Mariucci said. "They are a little more basic and fundamental. They try to out-physical you."

JT Sneaks Forecast:

I look for the jets to come out very emotional and put together a successful drive that should point some points on the board very early. The niners will come out passing which they will soon learn is a mistake. I look for alot of early frustration for the niners.

Halftime: Jets 13 Niners 3

The second half should be full of adjustments for the niners, the niners will realize they can move the ball on the ground easier than in the air, and when the jets adjust that will open the pass for garcia and comapny. the jets on the other hand will look for Chrebet to play well in the second half, and I look for him to be the go to guy on 3rd down situations.

The niners defense will also adjust and put stack the box to stop curtis; the jets offense that looked good in the first half will now begin to sputter. I see a late adjustment by the jets and look for wayne chrebet to be the spark the jets need to win late.

Final Score Jets 20 49ers 17

It's going to be a cold one tonight, and this one will go WAY under the total.

UNDER 47

JT...Nice Analysis!

I totally agree with your under play (going against a lot of great 'cappers on the over) but I believe the Niners win this one straight up, 23-20 as neither team has shown the ability to convert yardage into points at a very good rate.

Anyway, Good Luck!

Very good analysis... and you may be right, it very well could play out that way. I agree with the NY JETS coming out strong, and easily covering the FH line. I've already played it at -1 at YABET. I too was also leaning to playing the UNDER in the FH, as the line can be found as high as 23.5. That's still a winner at 13-10, which it could easily be by HT. My only concern with the UNDER angle, is the emotionally charged team and crowd, and the fact that VINNY and the JETS play so well on MNF. They are unreal on MNF for whatever reason.

Also, if you recall last season, vs BALT, the JETS abandoned the run vs the RAVENS and went to a hurry up type offense and moved the ball like crazy on the RAVENS. With SF giving up an average of 7.3 per attempt, that may change the game plan for the JETS and have them come out firing. YES, they've said they are gonna make it vanilla, but what they say and do may be way different! I wouldn't be surprised if they come out looking like RAINBOW SHERBET! Would you tell the other team you're gonna open it up BEFORE the game??? NO! You don't want them knowing what you're gonna do... Everyone KNOWS SF is gonna try and pass... that's what they do. BUT, SF will not be expecting the JETS to come out firing, and the hurry up. ONCE they have the lead, then they can go into their slow down, control the ball run game and be effective as SF would be forced to take chances to stop them, or cause turnovers. I'm playing the JETS -1 FH, but waiting on any total play at this point. Actually, I played OVER 44.5 last nite, figuring the line would climb, and may jump on a JETS/UNDER teaser if I feel so inclined.

My only question JT is don't you think the 49er's realize that the Jets are going to try and run the ball more. Won't the 49er's load up the line like Philly did against Dallas. Just wondering.

Cornlover,

I agree with you in believeing the jets will come out and try to establish, but i think they will be reluctant to stack the box early for a couple of reasons.

1) Peterson returns for the niners, and he is a big key to this defense and I think they want to see how he will play without stacking the box. Why put alot of men upfront if you don't have to?

2) The jets will have the emotion early, and the last thing the niners want to do is let the jets capitolize off of this emotion with a big play. I think the jets will try to go deep early to do this, but the niners hsould be prepared.

RC,

I agree that the last thing the jets would do is announce their game plans before the game goes off tonight, and as mentioned above I look for the jets to try and go deep early.

Comparing the jets last year is much different to the team you see before you tonight. New coaches, new sustem, and frustartion. With the exception of the tragedy, and it's impact everyone on the jets took a chance at explaining the offensive woes, and the jet faithful blasted the O. Here are some of the things the team is saying."This offense is like a radio station," said Curtis Martin. "You're trying to tune it in and you're getting closer and closer. Then you finally get it in and you hear all the words to the song. Right now, there is some static in the sound, but you?re fine-tuning, trying to get the sound to come out correctly so you can hear the melodies."

The new coach is preaching patience with his new offense.

"How long have we been doing it?" Edwards quipped. "There's a difference [between the amount of time] we're doing it and Brett Favre's doing it [in Green Bay]. We're all different. When you get a feel for your players you build it around those guys.

"What are we right now? I don't know, because we've only played two games," Edwards added.

Testaverde also feels the offense will improve.

"Yes, we'd like to be more explosive, score more points and be more consistent," Testaverde said. "One [thing] is the players getting more confident and comfortable. Two, the coaches are getting more confident in our ability to perform in the system. That's coming."

If you're expecting us to look like what the Rams look like, yeah [it's unfair expectations], because those guys have been together for a little bit," Chrebet said. "We could have all the minicamps we want and the longest training camp, but the coaches aren't going to truly know what we can do and when to count on us until they see us in game situations, and we've only had two games."

the key is preaching patience and although they may try an early bomb to capitolize on the mo and the energy of the crowd. The best way too be productive is by running curtis, and it is very important for this team to score on the first possession so they do not want to waste too many options early.

Finally, the jets have played well on monday night, but the niners are no slouch either.

San Francisco is making its first appearance on Monday Night Football since 1999 and has a 7-2 mark in such games under Mariucci. The Niners have won seven of their last nine games on Monday nights. With a 34-20 (.630) mark all-time on MNF, San Francisco is tied with Dallas for most NFC wins. The Niners need one win to tie the Dolphins for most victories in MNF history with 35.

they also havce dominated the jets going 7-1 in the series to include 4-0 on the road.

I see some people in here getting on the under at as low as 44, shop around you can get the total as high as 47 in some MJ sponsored books, and you can even get it at 47.5, if you know MSUDOG's local

The niners caught on to the fact that they can move the ball on the ground as they are averaging 6.2 yards per carry and the O-line is dominating, while the jets are missing tackles all over the field.

the great early play by RB rookie barlow is charging hearst up, and the combination of the two is opening up the passing game. I expect more of the same in the second half.

No line as of yet, but I will take the niners.

Garcia said it was going to be the biggest game of his young career, and if the first half is any indication, he may be right as he started out the gate 7 for 7. Had some second thoughts when the center went down with an injury, but the reserve came in and did not miss a beat.

Final play 49ers +3
