I am looking to take advantage of a free Moneygram payout. I called all 3 locations in my area that offer money pickup via Moneygram. Each told me they payout a maximum of $500 in cash and then give you a money order for any remaining amount. Can anyone elaborate on this?

I think they are strictly 500 or less.
Made a deposit with this method recently and had no probs, plus the fees are very inexpensive comparably. Not that it matters because they were covered.

Try Walmart in Wilkes Barre. I have received $1,000 without a problem. I'm curious as to what other places do Moneygram. Care to let me know?
goto walmart, i've recieved well over $500 before without any questions, other than a comment from the worker "no wonder you were anxious to get up here." lol

I have received over 1k before from Walmart with no questions asked except they had to get more money out of the back.
