What's up with people pulling the old "I'm taking my ball and going home" routine? For christ's sake Monty, what do you expect? He is an overweight, underachieving golfer that always chokes under pressure. OF COURSE FANS ARE GOING TO HECKLE HIM. If he goes through with this, I seriously doubt anyone will care. He needs to grow up and take it like a man. Maybe he could actually lose some weight or win a major, then he wouldn't have these problems.
Russia is acting fairly infantile themselves as well, threatening to withdraw from the Olympics and/or boycott the closing ceremonies. I hope all the attention heaped on that Canadian ice skating pair doesn't set a dangerous precedent where anyone who doesn't like a judging decision starts whining about it. They want Slutskaya to get a gold medal as well (it ain't gonna happen though). Sure Slutskaya skated well, but so did Hughes (or so I am told, they all pretty much look the same except when they fall).

Call me an idealist, but I thought the Olympics were supposed to bring people together. I thought they were a chance for international athletes to meet others from around the world and engage in some friendly competition. I shudder to even think about the Olympics falling prey to so many of the ills we see in other major market sports today.

Sarah Hughes skated 'gold medal performance' even if you didn't see anybody else skate for the entire two weeks. It would have taken a performance from Pluto to outdo what she did: maybe one of the best performances in the history of the sport.
Any judge who voted Hughes anywhere but first place in the free skate is a lying sack of crap. The Russians can pack up and go home for all I care. They are chickenshits for threatening to leave. Let them go. They will not be missed.
BTW TexasBC6, do I know you? Are you the one I went to the Ice Bats game with along with Roger and wigs?
