laying -185 on mosely by k.o.,t.k.o,or disq....................marquez has come back after semi-retirement in mid-1999.....he has had 4 bouts since coming back(the last being 08/02)......these have been vs obscure opposition...mosely last fought 07/02(the 2nd forrest loss)....
marquez has a nice record but is a guy that took much punishment throughout his career(even in the winning bouts)....in his 2 losses,he took fearful beatings from fernando vargas and yori boy campas(ugggh)......marquez is a lefty...a stand up fighter with very shaky defense(especially vs top competioin)....and the loss to campas was especially telling....campas is the same type of fighter as marquez....slow,stand-up,take 3 punches to land one...marquez looked shot in "99".....and this is probably the worst style match-up he could ever see...mosely`s speed is so profoundly superior to marquez,it`s scary....mosely will be in his comeback fight on hbo on saturday night....this coming on the heels of the forrest loss......i look for mosely to make a definitive statement and get right back into the mix....
facts-mosely....in 38 wins,he has 35 k.o.`s....it is reported that since he has moved up to jr middle,he is benching 360 lbs and squatting 500lbs!!.......that usually worries me,but,vs a guy that is just so slow of hand and foot,this will not matter..he`s walking around at 158 which means he`ll be comfy at 154......this is just such a bad match-up for marquez speed-wise,it`s unreal...you`ve got mosely in his comeback bout,coming on the heels of forrest`s loss...he`s got to be motivated....he will shred marquez....
facts-marquez......a jr midlle contender until all the wars caught up to him in 98 and 99.....the loss to war horse campas was the kicker...the guy was getting pounded by a very slow yuri boy...and vargas toyed with him...gave him a terrble one sided beating.....this guy cuts and swells if you look at him cross-eyed....in his last bout,he was cut over both eyes in winning a decision vs a guy with a 13-13-1 record.....i think that`s why they are taking this money fight while they have some name recognition...it` would be a matter of time before some mediocre guy stopped marquez on swelling or cuts...
i hate laying odds on HOW A FIGHT WILL END.....but,with mosely in his comeback fight,off the forrest losses(and with forrest losing),i think he will look to impress and jump back into the pound for pound mix....a perfect style match-up....speed and power vs a taker that cuts and lumps up....-1150 at oly straight up.........after fighting the tall,difficult forrest,and having trouble making the welterweight limit,i think he will look to impress and show he carries his power to jr middle.......
it`s posible that he comes out stale,and just gets some work and boxes to an easy decision....but,with the perfect opponent in front of him,i think shane puts on a show and cuts marquez to ribbons....i`d rather this be 12 rounds,but,them`s the cards that we got dealt....
i was waiting for this one...i wasn`t surprised that it was priced out of my range....very similar to dela hoya`s "gimme" coming up vs punching bag yori boy campas...
if mosely comes out and farts around under these circumstances,his career will be in jeopardy...i expect this to be a statement fight.....
i think mosely knows that he will destroy ricardo mayorga(believe me he will when they fight)..... with forrest`s loss,the doors are open...the perfect style match-up...speed vs a swelling,cutting stationary target....and i was happy to see that there is only a 1" height advantage for marquez...i always pictured mosely as short(he`s 5-9").......maybe because he seems to always fight tall guys(forrest,de la hoya,wilfredo rivera)......
