OK so we did an over-rated which all had some good takes on fighters who get too much credit.
Now onto the opposite side, UNDER-RATED:

MY TOP 10 IN NO ORDER:

Shane Carwin
(getting some pub now after KO of Gonzaga).
Satoru Kitaoka( Gets no attention except from hardcore MMA guys who follow Sengoku/Pancrase events Recently submitted Gomi and I thought he beat Inoue.)
Gray Maynard(While he is pretty boring,he controls the match and is unbeaten)
Goran Reljic(Guy to watch out for in LHW)
Ken Florian(Getting attention now but he has been awesome last few fights, real test coming up(Penn))
Luiz Cane(TKO machine)
Cain Velasquez(Will knockout Herring and maybe start getting better competition)
Jon Jones(Possible star power who will get his chance.)
Mike Brown(Getting the attention now but should have gotten it sooner)
Miguel Torres(Same as Mike Brown, both fly under the radar for respect being in WEC.)

I am sure I missed a few that will be mentioned and I will agree on.

What about Kimbo?

He beats up every thug in Hawaii then destroy's people in MMA, then finally loses cause he badly sprained his ankle yet it looked like he was hit with a punch. Diff top ten material.

I thought it was too obvious that he is under-rated just because he lost 1 fight.
I think everyone remembers what he did to Tank!:mj07:

I don't think Miguel is underrated b/c most have him top 10 p4p.

I like Mike Brown, Cain, Florian, and Jones.

Brian Bowles is another who deserves to be on this list. If Miguel can beat Bowles, then i'll be impressed.

Jose Aldo is getting more respect. He deserves to face some tougher competition.

We'll see if Steve Cantwell is as good as i think he is once he fights Cane. He is a question mark.

Cung Le is a damn good fighter mostly b/c he's able to keep the fight standing. Smart fighter who plays to his strengths.

Everybody KNOWS Nate Marquardt, but i dont think he's given proper respect. IMO, he is top 10 p4p. His near DQ against Leites set him back.

I think Benji Radach is underrated a lil, but he's gotten KO'd recently...... we'll see how he does tomorrow.

oh, and one more (edit: wrong name)

Kegray, who is that guy that trains w/ Anderson Silva who beat some ass in EliteXC..?? I thought it was something Feijao, guess i was wrong. Real solid thai boxer..........

I know Torres is considered best at his weight class, but it just seems he flies WAY under everyones radar that isn't hardcore MMA fans.

I think you are talking about Rafael Feijao who KO'd Travis Gailbraith at Elite Unfinished Business. He is a good fighter and is indeed underrated. Only loss was to Marcio Cruz because of a DQ in a fight he had won.

Here is a GREAT site for rankings and you can click on the fighter to pull up info and history:

It's funny you started this thread because I was going to put this in the other thread.

By far this most underrated is...

Rashad Evans-When was the last time he was favored in a fight against someone that was any good?

Well it is clear that the most over-rated is Aoki.

As for #1 in under-rated, that is clear as well.

Hatsu Hioki

Talk about Brown and Faber all you want but this dude is #1 in the division. Only hardcore MMA fans even know who he is. He is top 10 pound for pound in MMA and could EASILY be #1 in the division. This guy is amazing, clearly #1 under-rated fighter out there.

Also on my list.....

Jason MacDonald This guy gets no love, and gets bashed, I don't know why? He has wins over some quality guys and always seems to fight tough guys in the UFC. I mean look who he's faced in his UFC losses (Rich Franklin, Yushin Okami, Demian Maia). I'm not saying the guy is great or anything but he is under-rated, the guy ain't bad that's all I'm saying.

he's going to get his ass kicked against Lyoto, but you're right, I shouldn't have had him in the overrated column. I just don't like him.

I really think Rafael dos Anjos is a tough, tough fighter. He gave Tyson all he could handle and still lost the decision 30-27 on all the cards. :mj07: what a joke!

Nate Marquardt

Fitch

Reljic

the Dragon of course

matt hammil

Kary Parysian sp?? I love that judo.

kampmann

Dustin Hazelett <this kid is still VERY young, and he will go places before his career is over.

Hatsu Hioki

Excellent pull. I have only seen him fight 3 times and thought he was sick in all of them.

I saw the armbar win over Chris Manuel a few weeks ago(online). I saw him dominate performance over Mark Hominick and his win in Pride 12 over Curran.

Hazelett and Fitch are definitely underrated.

I hope Karo can get his mind right and come back in shape.... people fail to realize that, although his standup is lame, he can still chuck people on their heads with judo throws. If Karo fought Diego Sanchez on a concrete surface, Diego would no longer be with us today :sadwave: b/c Karo dropped him on his head multiple times. Purposely.

As for Dos Anjos, he earned some major respect against Tyson Griffin. Before that, he was known as the guy who got KTFO by Jeremy Stephens.

Raphael Assuncao
is another talented featherweight IMO.

Joseph Benavidez
has a bright future.

thought of another. How about Anthony "Rumble" Johnson?? Great striker, strong wrestling background, and he's only 25. I think he still has huge potential.

You guys are bandwagon jumpers.

Shane Carwin is a bum. He was getting pasted by Gonzaga and got a lucky shot in. He's strong thats it. No talent

Cain Velasquez underrated. He doesnt even deserve to be rated yet. omg.

Mike Brown underated??? huh. Is he good yes, does he deserve high praise. Not even close yet. Lucky shot against Faber when Faber did idiotic spin around. I like Mike Brown but he is not underated yet.

Goran Reljic's career might be done(major injury). He is very good but once again hasnt fought good enough fighters to even be rated let alone underated.

Torres again fun exciting fighter. Who has he fought worth speaking about.

All of these guys on your list are bandwagon jumps.

My underrated: none. MMA isnt like boxing where you have guys that slip under the radar. In MMA any schmuck can win at any time. Boxing no.

Look at Sylvia/Nog. Sylvia beats the crap out of him for 2 rounds and gets caught because of a stupid mistake

Carwin may be a one trick pony and yes Gonzaga was more sound for the 1 minute he lasted but Carwin has a power that can not be matched in the UFC HW class. Punching power is the most important thing in the HW class as very few go to the ground anymore. Nog/Shogun/Herring and others don't even try takedowns anymore. The HW class has turned into boxing matches with lighter gloves of late.
I see at least 6 if not more HW fighters on this ranking list that are not any better than Carwin:
http://www.topgunmma.com/rankings.php?div=5

So how is that not under-rated. Cro Cop wouldn't stand a chance against Carwin these days.

If no one is an under-rated in MMA and anyone can go at any time then why doesn't Vegas put every fight at a pickem. There are big underdog winners in almost every MMA event so obviously the oddsmakers are underestimating the ability based on peoples betting habits.

And Sylvia's stupid mistake was not finishing the fight when he should have(like Mir did).

Reports are Reljic is ready to fight again. Question is will his back hold up or if he even gets medical clearance.
