It was refreshing to attend a movie where no one was under the age of 35.
Quiet, no last minute cell phones conversations, just anticipation of a good adult movie.
The movie opens in 1995 with a Asian mother and kids checking into a posh NYC hotel.
It is raining, and one child has dirty shoes dripping mud in the lobby. Immediately, the staff figures these people do not meet our standards, and "lose" their reservation...no room for you.
The mother uses a phone booth, makes a call, and re-enters the hotel....her obscenely-rich family simply buys the hotel.
Flash ahead to today. Her son Nick, in NYC, is dating Rachel, who is of very humble roots, she has NO clue about his family and their VAST Asian real estate empire based in Singapore.
Nick asks Rachel to go to his brothers wedding in Singapore.
Rachel meets the entire family...it's quite the spectrum of Asian characters.
Their old family traditions firmly intact, but these are different times.
Nick proposes, Mom REALLY disapproves, friendships develop, family secrets are revealed.
The outrageous exhibition of wealth, and the interesting things the wedding party comes up with for entertainment are over the top.
This movie reminds me of quirky family wedding comedy's of an era gone by, we found it very refreshing....
Go see it with wife or Girl friend.....you won't be disappointed.....
