Really liked movie 8 out of ten.....:toast:
This is not your old tried and true Tarzan Johnny Weismuller "Me Tarzan, You Jane.'' with Cheeta the chimp acting badly.
Its smartly played out, very engaging and truly scenic.
The year is 1888, Belgium has enlarged its grip on the Congo. Slavery and resource plundering is in full swing.
Meanwhile John Clayton (Tarzan's real name) and Jane are ten years removed from Africa, living in his deceased dad's palatial English Estate.
Belgium has built 50 forts in the Congo and is building up troops for even more exploitation.
Trouble is, King Leopold of Belgium, is near broke.
He has sent his advisor actor Christopher Waltz (perpetual bad guy) to pursue a fabled diamond hoard to raise money.
A trunk load of big diamonds is promised by a chief
in exchange for Tarzan ( Alexander Skarsgard of True Blood fame).
Apparently Tarzan killed his only son while avenging his Ape Mothers death.
Tarzan is lured to Africa ( actually filmed in Gabon)
to investigate slavery, while under a goodwill invitation from Belgium.
He is accompanied by American Ex-Military Mercenary (Samuel Jackson) and his wife Jane.
I was raised on Tarzan Movies....I thought this modern re-tell was very well presented. The Belgian Congo was exploited for years, they handled that nicely, Tarzan's early years are told in flashbacks.
Samuel Jackson nails his boisterous part and balances well with the laid back Tarzan.
The female lead Margot Robbie is a looker, I can see Tarzan
mating her over and over....
The animal computer work was great,Tarzan swinging thru the jungle spot on, his famous Tarzan Yell is there, not a boring moment in the film.
The story unfolds from there.... WARNING short spoiler below.
Bad guys capture Tarzan, he escapes, in the mean time they catch Jane, use her as bait. Tarzan and Sam Jackson chase bad guys, Tarzan confronts angry Chief, Tarzan survives, uses his animal communication skills to seriously kick ass.
