Hey guys,

I'll be packing up and driving out to Zona in 3 short weeks. Leavng rainy, humid Long Island for the sunny desert. I have family out there that I will be staying with. I'll have my own basement apartment in a beautiful house, own bathroom, living room, bedroom and garage.

I'm so excited to be leaving and starting a new life. I just graduated college last summer and it's been hell trying to find a job here in New York (I'm a certified physical education teacher).

I'm gonna leave on the 26th, go to Tahoe, California to spen d week with my dad, then go down to AZ to start looking for a job.

Just wondering if anyone had any advice for me. I will be moving out there alone and will need to find some stuff to do to meet some cool people to party with. I know when I get a job I'll meet people there, but till then I'm gonna need some stuff to do.

Anyone from the area know any good places to go party? I've been there a few times, I know Tempe is a party town. I will be living in Fountain Hills, about 30 mins north of Tempe.

Just looking for some words of encouragement I guess from anyone who has been there and done that.

Thanks fellas ...

I lived in Tempe last year. For the party scene I would probably recommend either downtown Tempe or Scottsdale. Scottsdale is a little more upscale and a lot of people go to the clubs there. Everything in Arizona closes early though. Was 1 when I was there but I think clubs close at 2 now. Lots of hot girls out there. I'm sure you'll enjoy the change from the northeast scene.

Hey godogg,
first off, good luck! I just moved from living in Long Island myself, lived there 21 yrs and after college I moved here to Fort Myers to do what you're doing, start new. what part of LI were you from? I was from rockville centre......anyway, you will find that nothing is like NY in terms of food, culture, people and overall feel, but arizona wouldve been on my list right behind fla it's just that I had some family here..good luck with the move, and you're not the only one doing that, LI has gotten too expensive to live and too cold in the winter, take care

I'm from Patchogue. Lived here my whole life (22 years).

Can't wait to be in the sun. I would rather have 114 degree summers with no humidity than 90 degrees here when you walk out to your car and your back starts sweating, uhh ...

Also am looking forward to the change in lifestyle. I cant stand all the traffic here and how everyone acts like they have to be somewhere in 10 seconds.

April 26th I'll have my 67 VW camper packed up and ready to go for the trip.

Thanks for the good words guys. If anyone else has any moving advice and has a few extra minutes to post, thatd be great.

After you "visit" Tahoe, you may never leave. It's argueably the most beautiful place in the world. Golf everywhere, water skiing, world class snow skiing in the winter, gambling everyday, Headliner entertainment, horny women on vacation....and you want to move to Arizona?

However, Good Luck on your move....

No doubt Tahoe is a gorgeous place, but way too much snow for me in the winter. I was on the phone with my dad one morning when he was on his way to work and I heard snow mobiles ripping by him on the road. Plus my vw lugs up those mountains, I was going like 15 mph, it was crazy ...

When I was there in July they had a celebrity golf tourny in town and all the guys were hanging out at the casino. Lemieux, Emmit Smith, Jordan, Barkely, Thiesman to name a few ... got to see them all.

Thanks for the good words.

Got a cousin that lives in Tombstone. She says its very remote
not quite what they expected.

Flagstaff is nice area and tolerable for heat.

Phoenix is very hot and dry.

i'm also a transplanted nyer who moved to arizona.

since the type of partying that you are looking for has passed me by (lol), i can't help you with places to meet people.

however, i will tell you this though.....there are beautiful & friendly women out here of all ages.with a nice smile & a good rap, i'm sure that you wouldn't have any problems meeting somebody, even in the mall.

i don't know if you have been out to fountain hills....but it's a beautiful place....but quiet.

the boys,

it's a shame how little respect they give to teachers out here.and it shows in it's students.

i knew a women who was a teacher in ny & decided to be a substitute teacher when she moved to arizona.she found out that bank tellers were making more money than she was...so she decided to be a bank teller.

Arizona is listed as 32nd in the country in teachers pay. Not too great ...

But I compare that to how hard it is to simply land a teaching job here in NY and how much happier I will be never having to shovel snow again and it makes up for it.
