Water and power is back.. I can only speak from Central Texas ,Austin . Houston is the the east of me ,Dallas and Forth Worth to the North, San Antonio to the south , Hawaii to the west.. This is my 1st state of the Union address as a Texan .. I no longer am a citizen of NY State.. and{ Cuomo what the f are you doing up there.} I have my Texas Drivers license ,voter registration ,house, car, license plate ,car registration ,etc etc. There is a scene in Bravehart when Wallace is talking to his soldiers on his horse before his frontal attack on the English. .. If you can imagine me for a second on that horse. ' You can have my license, car registration, texas voter registration ,Texas condo but you can't take away my NY Giants , Army football, Marist basketball,Hudson Valley fall, summer, spring , and MAAC basketball conference.. and the 4 snow plows my village of 1,400 owns.
You see.. with 4 or 5 days of temperature under 32 a few in the teen the entire state of Texas has shut down.. I can only speak of Austin.. no power in half the city ,no water in 3/4 of the city.. My water came on last night after 5 days .. But more have suffered a lot more.. my son had no power in Northeast Austin with 2 kids under 3 and temperatures in the house at 48 degrees,.. and me with power but no water couldn't drive the 12 miles to help him since the roads were impassable. The city of Houston has 6 million,Austin I think has 1 million and neither own one snow plow. Think Dallas owns a few.. but to think 6 inches of snow here and freezing weather all over the state shuts down the entire state. Think CNN,Fox,CNBC front stories are about Texas.
I do not want to get into a political argument here because everyone is pointing fingers about each other. But my Governor Abbot of Texas went onto to Fox news news and blamed the crisis on the " wind turbines " not working.. About 10% of our energy here in Texas comes from wind turbines. " the cold weather froze them".. They cannot survive cold weather.. But Gov ,Norway,Finland Denmark get over 60% of there energy from wind turbines..and they are 2,000 miles closer to the North Pole .. there are many reasons why Texas failed, the electric grids, upkeep, not being a part of the the Federal system.etc etc.. and I'm, Not here to blame anyone Hopefully they can fix it and stop pointing fingers at each other. And then you have Ted Cruz leaving for Cancun with his wife blaming his daughter.. Finally when his wife's texts are made public about there excursion to escape to Mexico for a few days.. just own up to it.. stop lying ..finally you did ... you criticized California energy big time when they had all the fires and now your own state is in worst shape..
This is a not a political post . All you guys on the right, left, center field need to play together. Even switch hitters .. we are Americans 1st and foremost.. my Aunt passed away in NY.. she was one of the many that was hospitalized, sent to a nursing home and died of Covid... but now that Gov is under the carpet for false information and hiding facts..
I never, ever, ever post political statements here. I respect everyone's political beliefs . I might disagree with them
but to me MJ's is about Sports . can Ohio St cover vs michigan . We all need to play together esp in the outfield

And although I changed my team from different states we are all red, white and blue and I will not eat a breakfast taco's..

I?m 15 miles south of Houston

No electricity for 3 days, it was 49 inside my home when electricity came back on, didn?t ever lose water and no broken pipes, I was proactive though, flushing toilets at all hours during the night, running hot water at 4am, I couldn?t let my faucets drip, so I just stayed up and slept during the day, there was nothing else to do, roads were iced over, no Internet, phone, tv nothing, wife and I just played games on our iPads and iPhones

Looking into a whole house generator and bought a few things off Amazon in case this crap happens again so we can charge devices, had to sleep without my cpap and that sucked for 3 nights but we made it

Hedgehog...Glad you were proactive and made it out without too much damage to your house. The negative one degree in Arlington plus the power outage created a lot of inconvenience for many families.

Completed House/Pool inspection. Lint basket lid was cracked. Except plants not making it, I came away clean.

Have seen and heard some bad stories, so I am grateful.

That's great, Another Steve! Glad to hear that you escaped with minor scratches.

We were one of the lucky ones that had full power and water throughout the ordeal. I drove in the most treacherous conditions on Sunday night to pick up my parents to come stay with us because their power went out at 2:00 A.M. Cars were sliding everywhere. I witnessed live collisions and also luckily managed to avoid a few. My sister's family in Arlington went without power for a couple of days, but also had to find refuge because even their wood-burning fireplace wasn't enough to provide warmth in the frigid temperature outside. It got down to negative one degree on Monday night/Tuesday morning. Another sister in Katy had to seek shelter in her car (with heater running) as that was the only source of warmth. She took her two sons to Gallery Furniture (Mattress Mack) only to have the power there go out in the middle of the night as well.

By the way, Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale who recently won a huge Super Bowl bet, is a true humanitarian.

I am in Fort Worth and my daughter and grandkids are as well. They stay on the south side and I'm in the north side of the city. It's a large city.
Daughter lost power on Sunday and it was out until Wednesday I believe. I lost water in my kitchen as the outside pipe going up the west wall of my house froze.
Daughter and grandkids stayed here and we called out at my place with space heaters as even my heater couldn't keep up with the cold. Houses are not heavily insulated here, at least not the older ones. Mine were built on 84 and 2015 respectively and I need to add some insulation here that's for sure.

Everything was closed here for 2-3 days. There was one Taco Bell that stayed open as long as possible but they ran out of food with lines a block and a half long to the drive thru.

Box,
Breakfast burritos, not tacos necessarily, but this burritos............... delicious brother. You have to try them. Glad to have you here in Texas, get used to people not turning right on red, slow traffic in the left lane, drivers freaking out when it rains, tacos from gas stations, Dr. Pepper or Coke.

Restored water and power.. things were just getting back to usual and our Gov Abbot lifts the ban on masks . yesterday.. with only 10% of the population in the state getting their 1st c-19 vaccine can't you wait a little longer. My wife and I got both shots but 75% of the teachers in my daughters school haven't got any .. now teachers are scheduled to get them in the next few days. The CEO of Austin City Limits was on the radio. He is happy that the mask ban is over but he is so worried about thinking we fixed it but if this comes back we might never recover.. Alamo Draft House filed for chapter 11.. I realize the economy is hurting but lets listen to science .. to much politics involved in all this
fatdaddy might try a breakfast burrito and maybe breakdown and have a breakfast taco but will always pronounce the month of July correctly .. not like my native Texan wife and say " Jew lie"
glad you are safe ..

I was with you until the breakfast tacos. You need some Carne Guisada in your life.

In Spanish it means, "Meats of the Gods" - No need to google it

We're doing good down here keeping the politics out of the mask debate.

Had a cat from Bakersfield California today call me and wish me good luck now that our Governor had lifted the mask mandate. I told him to go back and reread, they only lifted the mask mandate on the horses we ride to work down here.

Y'all all be safe and take care, even you HH
