I lean to Miss St here despite the fact that this matchup features the most talented and the least talented teams in the SEC. Not sure how well LSU offense is ready to perform with new OC, QB and WRs. A short field for the experienced Miss St O could allow them to score a little against strong LSU front 7. A pair of new safeties for LSU could mean a couple of breakdowns in the secondary. Miss St has had their a$$ kicked so badly by LSU the past few seasons, that I know Croom will have them up for this prime time matchup. Despite this being a conference game, I can easily see LSU players being far more interested in Week 2 matchup @ home vs. highly ranked Va Tech.

Hope I'm wrong. GL:weed:

I alomost forgot, the fact the line opened at 16.5 leads me to believe action on LSU is what "they" want. I could be wrong, but I would be more comfortable backing LSU in this spot had the line opened at 17+.

I'm surprised you like Miss St. I'm sure you have a better feel for whats going on down there than I do. Obviously, LSU lost some serious talent from last year - Russell/Bowe/Landry to name a few. The public is aware of that. How is the "reload" looking? I think I recall LSU getting up big early on the Bulldogs and then they layed down and blew the cover? It seems like faves are the way to go early in college. We shall see- I can't wait. God Bless Football!

I really am liking Mizzou more and more. Illini are very young- good time to play them. Game is in STL so basically neutral, but probably more MU crowd. If MU loses this game there will be some po'd fans. They should have some serious Offensive fire power this year. 31-17 MU.

Don't really have a feel for this game, but
Illinois Coach---Ron Zook
Illinois record last year (2-10)
8 off. returning starters
9 def. returning starters
Illinois outgained foes on the year by an average
of 346-310. A key culprit for their record was a
-15 in turnovers and 5 close losses. The Illini made
Phil Steels most improved list.

***Fighting Illini are 6-2 in season openers with
both losses vs Mizzou in St. Louis. Illinois has lost 7
in a row in the state of Missouri in this series with
their last win in '76.

Missouri Coach---Gary Pinkel
Mizzou record LY (8-5)
9 off. starters returning
5 def. starters returning
Phil Steels fav to get to the Big 12 title game.

Should be one hell of a game. :00hour

Surprised by so many returning starters on Illini? I was listening to local radio (this dude actually knows his shit- Soren Petro 810 am in KC) was saying how young they were? MU's D fell apart after the injury to DL anchor Ziggy Hood last year. He's back and the CB's have looked much better than expected.

My pick for O' player of the year in Big 12 is QB Chase Daniel. This guy is a player and a winner. If Pinkel can stay out of the way and not run a shotgun formation on 3rd and 1 they should win 9 games. To do that they obviously can't lose to Illini. This may be one of the few matchups that they are not overmatched coaching wise. Zook and Pinkel are essentially mirror images- good recruiters, good looking guys, and idiots on gameday. MU will present big matchup problems w/ TE's Coffman (6'6" 245 and Rucker 6'6" 255.) Both great athletes. Coffman has speed too. It will be intersesting to see how people game plan vs. these 2? You can't put LB's on them. They will be splitting both out in spread formations vs. small DB's. Zook will have his hands full. Both these MO products will be playing on Sunday. MU is also solid @ RB spot w/Tony Temple. Blue Chipper from KC who has not lived up to the hype, but has serious talent.

By the way, I have no MU ties. I went to U of AZ. So the AZ pick is the homer. MU will shit the year away @ some point- they always do, but they win Illini game fairly easy IMO.

Doc, Illinois has 45 returning lettermen, they lost
10. Mizzou has 39 returning lettermen, they lost
20. I get this stuff from Phil Steels College
Football Preview. $9 at any magazine vendor.
Well worth the $$$. GL2U this season :toast:
