J/K of course but he got his first chance to pitch tonight in his 8 yr old league... he faced three batters, and struck out all three. Doesn't mean much.. but exciting for me nonetheless

Good for him and you!
My 7 year old is in machine pitch. Next year, kid pitch. I'm looking forward to teaching him to pitch this summer and fall. If you can pitch, you're always playing.
Keep us posted.

For what is is worth keep him away from throwing curveballs and try to teach him a changeup.
For once I agree with you Sponge.
25G, I remember the same excitement, only to be
smashed by the politics and coach's sons bias of
Little League Baseball. It's the reason baseball is
dying. Just wait, you'll see. And you'll see it sooner
than later. It just gets worse. The parents are
absolute freaks. Let's bring this thread back in four
years, you will understand. Any other sport you
will advance with your skills. Baseball, you can be a
fat, slow, dumpy POS but if your dad is a coach or
sucks a coach's dick, you're in like flint.

Agreed! (Although I had a helluva curve!)
Teaching nothing but "bringing the heat!"

Doesn't mean much? The heck it doesn't. Was he smiling afterwards? There is nothing better in my mind that working with these kids and seeing them excel - or at least get better. And when it's your own, all the better. My stepson has really grown, pitched last year for our team for the first time and got better as the year went on. Why? Because I took him out to the field on weekends and we practiced a lot. Doesn't make me special, but it makes him special because of the time.
This year he was #1 or #2 starter (depending on if you ask me or someone else...ha) on his middle school team, and looks like he could be pretty good if he stays interested.
It starts with that one inning. You - and he - will never forget it, and you never should. Congrats, and let him know the Twins could use a short reliever for a few weeks...:tongue
