With all the bullshit as of late, 300k in action, millionares abound, I feel compelled to tell my story. I grew up in a small michigan town. Extemely poor as my old man left us when I was 11 years old and I never saw him again. Piece of shit.......
I worked on the farm when I was 13, and in the canning factory from the age of 14. Graduated from high school in 1977, and went into the marine corps.
Got out with an honorable discharge in 1981 and worked as a laborer with brick layers as this was my fathers trade, just in time for the birth of my son. I walked my son in a stroller and saw a sign in kaybee toys stating asst. mgr needed. I applied and got the job at a sparkling 7.50 an hour. I worked my way up to mgr at an awesome salary of 300 bucks a week in 6 months.
I went with another company as it was larger and I had an asst. mgr come and tell me that an old man was writing things down on a tablet and they wanted to kick him out, it was "Sam Walton", I told the guy that he was a moran and that he owned walmart. Sam offered me a job and I worked with that company for 16 years before leaving them for the company I am with now. I will not tell you what company I am a general manager with as this is the internet...I am with the most admired retail company as they compensate the most of any other. The point of the story is...........does not matter where you have come from, if you work hard and have a passion for what you do, you can make a great life for yourself, even if you grew up with nothing.:toast:
