Why don't we marvel at Chauncey Billups?

Why are we spellbound by Kobe Bryant and LeBron James, when neither has the Finals MVP credentials of Billups?

Why do we ooh and aah at Chris Paul and Tony Parker, when neither has the clutch-shot reputation of Billups?

Why do we rush to recognize the next great thing in Kevin Durant or Derrick Rose, when neither has the rock-solid resume of Billups?

Billups doesn't make defenders look helpless. He doesn't dunk. He doesn't explode for 40 points. He doesn't call attention to himself.

But here's why we should marvel at Billups: His smarts are off the charts. As well as any player in the NBA, he understands how he can use his game to control each game.

What's amazing is now after two games, in L.A. nonetheless, I truly do feel that the Nuggets are the team to beat with the series moving to Denver after the Lakers were fortunate to escape with game one.

We're not the best road team in the NBA for no reason," - Kobe Bryant
Kobe is referring to the Lakers 29-12 NBA-best road record. But that was their record during the regular season. In the playoffs the Lakers have posted a much more pedestrian 2-3 record away from the Staples Center.

Meanwhile, the Nuggets are the only team left in the playoffs who have yet to drop a game on their home floor. The Nuggets boast a perfect 6-0 record at the Pepsi Center (16-0 if you count the regular season) and have not lost at home since March 9th (Houston Rockets).

Denver has been beating teams at The Can by a margin of 19.2 points per game by averaging 113 ppg, while giving up an average of only 93.8 ppg. Denver truly feeds off their sixth man at home, not J.R. Smith, but rather the crowd. Each game seems louder than the previous and I expect to be at a crazy DB pitch today.

Obviously, as these playoffs continue to progress the level of opponent gets better-and-better and we all know from Games 1 and 2 that we should expect a close game tonight against the Lakers.

L.A. will be heading into their third game three on the road and they are currently 1-1 in game threes. The Nuggets are also 1-1 in game threes, but for the first time in these playoffs they'll be playing this game at home.

I expected Denver to come out in Game 2 and play a tough hard fought 48 minutes. Though the game was hard fought ... the Nuggets have yet to put together a full 48 minute effort. Going home with a win fresh under their belts I expect Melo and Co. to come out and be fired up ... how could they not be when the crowd will be going bonkers?

Ace spot on. I believe that there is two value plays today. The nuggets mostly becuase the fakers bench will be very short and inconsistent. The crowd will give us a the first glance at how the nuggets can go on big runs. The bird will be flying.

Second based on refs I see the under being a value. I will dig further on the total. Will post the refs records. The total has risen to 212.

AX where are you? You are the total master.

After looking at these number it makes me think that nuggets at home will go over. However the Lakers hold the nuggets down to 44%fg or less. Nuggets seem to shoot 50% or better with everyone else.

Why would the books keep the toatal the same when it has been close every time?

The nuggets play a faster tempo at home.

The refs are all under refs. Refs will allow them to play. Does That equal tight defense or run and gun layups?

 More work ahead.

Since waiting for you to man-up appears to be a losing proposition, the following is for you.

Last week I tried to help you by letting you know Vegas does not set traps.
What I got for my efforts was a dismissal. I asked for some clarification ... but I'm still waiting.

Yesterday when you were whining that Ax didn't post anything, I gave you a bet and told you it was about as good as they get.
What I got for my efforts was you calling me a cheerleader, you telling me to get off Ax's nutsack, and you saying my thinking is cloudy.

Read my past posts in which I've made picks for the playoffs and then tell me if MY THINKING IS CLOUDY.

I shall summarize them for you (I'm including the line I got and the number of units I bet since I'm not always clear; my bets are either .5, 1, or 1.5 units, or action: 1/20 unit):

04/19 W 1.5U DEN -6 (113-84)

04/24 L 1.5U HOU -5 (86-83)

04/27 W 1U DEN (121-63)

04/27 W 1U POR -5 (88-77)

05/03 W 1U DEN -6.5 (117-105)

05/06 W 1U BOS OV 190 (206)

05/09 W 1U CLE UN 181 (179)

05/11 W 1.5U DEN -7 (124-110)

(I realize that kurby might be a shaky sign for a pick, but I posted this just after the previous game, and I like to give people a chance to think for themselves before I contaminate the water. Anyway, other people posted this same idea in the next day's thread, and with the line moving all the way to -10, this game wasn't that much of a secret.)

05/22 W 1.5U CLE 1Q -3 (30-16)

For the most part I don't want attention and I like to lurk in the background (eventhough this post screams otherwise), but at the same time, I don't come here to be disrespected.

Denver has only given up three 30+ point quarters to the Lakers in eight total quarters ... that's huge

Denver averaged 22 assists per game in L.A. ...
expect that number to increase tonight

Isn't the idea of this site to bounce thoughts off each other in hopes of getting a clearer picture on games so that all can prosper instead of the books? I find it counterproductive to criticize picks but that doesn't mean you shouldn't present your opinion. No one is beyond reproach. Ax has done a remarkable job,but I have watched his posts and he never dismisses another opinion. He seems to value every opinion. That along with his stat and research skills make him the successfull capper he is. It is also counterproductive to re-hash old disagreements in order to make a point. I call it grandstanding. Not good for teams and this is a team effort.

Dude, no one was ever talking to you. I was speaking to Ax therefore, i did not respond to you. I am confused at your post referring to a dismissal. I have no problems with anyone nor do I want anyone's picks. Take a look at my picks and let me know what you think?? I wrote that I liked cavs quarter and half last night.

Ace, my brain is running out of steam today - too many late nights capping. I wrote in the 05/15 thread about LA and I think the most important thing from that is LA's inability to knockdown the perimeter jumper after Kobe or Pau get doubled. D Fish (along w Robert Horry) was vital to past Laker sucesses. He's not knocking down that shot anymore and, on the road, I don't know who will.

On paper, this is DEN by DD, but how much of that paper is DEN reading? Their comeback from their slow start in G2 gives me hope that they can overcome an overconfident start in G3. Also, I don't see them doing a CLEVELAND and folding in the 4Q - even if they fuk around, they should still be banging the Laker softies, and with the altitude, this should have an effect down the stretch. DEN has multiple go2guys (at home, JR gets included; although I'm worried about the lift on his jumpshot) and I see them converting on offence if it's tight.

I don't believe in fixed sides during the regular season, but when it comes to David Stern getting
paid by having the Lakers advance as far as humanly possible ... lookout.
The good news for G3 though is, NO JOEY CRAWFORD.

So, while this is a tough spot (see G3 BOS/CHI), I think DEN has shown enough mental toughness; especially when compared with tomorrow's game when ORL will be in virtually the same place.

I am a Laker fan but i do not see how anyone could bet them tonight. Denver fans have been waiting a long time for this game. My only hesitation would be the line, why is it so damn low?
