Karl Malone, who suffered a broken nose on Tuesday, played on Wednesday but was limited, the Associated Press reported. Malone finished with 13 points in 29 minutes, as the Jazz were blown away by the Rockets. Malone took another shot to the nose in the second quarter on Wednesday, and he sat out the entire fourth quarter due to the score and the injury.

Tyrone Hill sat out Wednesday's game with a lower back contusion, the Associated Press reported. He is day-to-day.

Following a 38-point performance against the 76ers, guard/forward Jalen Rose had X-rays to examine his left Achilles' tendon on Wednesday night, the Associated Press reported. The X-rays were negative, and the team said that Rose would be re-evaluated on Thursday. He is considered day-to-day.

Forward Rashard Lewis sprained his right ankle in practice on Wednesday, the Seattle Times reported. Head coach Nate McMillan expects Lewis to play on Friday. He is not as certain about guard Kenny Anderson, who missed practice with back spasms, and forward Vladimir Radmanovic, who participated in shoot drills after practice.

Heat guard Eddie Jones, hampered by a strained left groin, stayed behind Thursday when the team left for the start of a four-game trip.
Jones, Miami's leading scorer at 18.5 points per game, will miss Friday night's game at Houston and probably also Saturday's game at Dallas. He may rejoin the team for games Monday and Tuesday at Detroit and New Jersey.

Jones' groin has bothered him much of the season. He aggravated the injury in the fourth quarter of Tuesday's loss to New Orleans.

The last time the Heat were without Jones, they went winless on a five-game Western swing last month.

Rookie Rasual Butler is the likely replacement for Jones. Butler has averaged 15.4 points in five starts in place of Jones.

Hornets forward P.J. Brown will miss Friday's game in Minnesota because of a death in the family.

Team officials said Brown will skip the game to attend the funeral of a relative of his wife. He is expected to return for Sunday's home game against Denver.

Brown is averaging 10.3 points and 8.6 rebounds.
