NCAA Betting Weekend
By SPORTSBETTING.COM
The curtain is slowly closing on another college football season and that means it will be a sprint to the finish for teams hoping to sew up BCS bowl berths.
As we?ve mentioned on numerous occasions this season, the hold that teams have had on the No. 1 position has been tenuous, with teams rising and dropping from the top spot in mercury-like fashion.
Case in point, the Oklahoma Sooners, who are currently ranked fifth in the BCS standings.
Through Weeks 5 and 6, the Sooners were the nation?s top team but an untimely 45-35 loss to Texas in the Red River Rivalry game (where the Sooners were listed at -7) led to a fall from the top spot.
However, Oklahoma has a chance to move up this weekend if it can rise to the occasion when it hosts the No. 2 ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders; the Sooners are favored by a touchdown and judging by recent history, the Sooners seem to have the edge too.
Since 1996, Oklahoma has had a decided advantage against Texas Tech when in Norman, going 5-1 straight up and 4-2 against the spread.
The Sooners also have an edge in their last 12 games against Texas Tech overall going 8-4 SU and ATS.
Texas Tech hasn?t done well either when underdogs of 8-points or less going 3-5 SU and ATS when in that role.
The betting public is backing the home favorite, still not believing Tech should be where they are. 73% of the volume is coming in on the Sooners.
The last time the Michigan Wolverines traveled to the ?Horseshoe? in Ohio State was in 2006 and it was a meeting of the nation?s No. 1 and No. 2 teams with a berth in the BCS title game on the line?the Ohio State Buckeyes won the game SU 42-39 but failed to cover at -6.5.
This time around, the game isn?t as monumental but that doesn?t mean bettors aren?t interested.
SPORTSBETTING.COM has the Buckeyes listed as 20.5-point favorites.
Two key losses to USC and Penn State this year will end No. 10 Ohio State?s two-game BCS title appearance streak but covering against the hated-Wolverines would be nice for OSU fans and bettors alike.
In the last six home games against Michigan, Ohio State has gone 4-2 straight up but how it fares ATS is a different story as the Buckeyes are only 3-3 ATS vs. the Wolverines during the same time.
In the last seven games in either Columbus or Ann Arbor, Ohio State has the edge going 6-1 SU, including the last four games in a row, and 5-2 ATS and on the Over/Under.
Besides Michigan-Ohio State, another key Big Ten matchup features the No. 8 Penn State Nittany Lions hosting the No. 15 Michigan State Spartans with Penn State favored by 15.5-points.
The last eight matchups between the two haven?t gone well for the Spartans as they are 2-6 SU and 3-5 ATS and their last six games in Happy Valley have ended sadly as Michigan State is 0-6 SU and 2-4 ATS.
The end may be near for this year?s college football season but that only means things are going to heat up with conference championship games, the awarding of the Heisman trophy and of course, bowl season.
Have a good weekend.
