NCAA SEASON: 49-42 (+3.3 Units)
Sides: 44-36 (+4.9 Units)
Totals: 5-6 (-1.6 Units)
_______________________________________

Had one of those weeks in college football last week that I'd like to forget, but that will change this week. Got a very early start on capping this week and came up with probably my strongest play of the season (UAB) which will be for my maximum bet of 2 units. I also bought a half which I don't expect I'll need, but UAB has the better fg kicking team and it's just a precaution....I can't see this line going any lower and think it's a gift at what it's at right now.

Played:

FRESNO ST -2.5 (1 UNIT) (Friday game)
UAB -9.5 (-120) (2 UNITS) ;)

Will add as I get more capped. Also will try to get some analysis up for my UAB play if I get some extra time.

Good luck to all this upcoming weekend!

I show UAB should cover this number easily..but Watson Brown does not have a good record on the road..if again you trust the numbers UAB will win by 20+..good luck

be careful

be careful

those uab road comments have merit, and army is beginning to show life on offense...but,army`s defense is an absolute sieve...i think buying the half was a good idea....if uab stops the army "o",you`ll win going away.g.l.

On this UAB game:

First of all thanks to all that added their opinions on this game.

I've kinda been sitting back watching this line drop and I'm just totally confused on why it's dropping in my favor. Was very surprised to see it drop to 9 yesterday, but dropping to 8 today at many shops just has me scratching my head  I tend to follow these lower profile teams pretty deeply and like to believe I have a pretty good ?read? on them and have learned to trust myself way more so than the odd line movement on this game.

Noticed a couple of comments about how UAB has struggles on the road?? Well that?s true to a degree, but then again you have to look at who those road teams were. This season they are 0-3 as they got smoked by Florida on the road in the first game of the season and it is true they got shut out by LA Lafayette. But in that Lafayette game, the team just came off playing a very good Pittsburgh team very tough the prior week and the players admittedly said after the game that they did not take the game serious at all and were about as down on themselves as you could get. The players were also heard saying they will take every game as a meaningful one from now on. Also there other loss on the road was last week vs Tulane, but remember they were in that game for almost the better of 3 quarters and had a punt return and a key interception that set up another score that did them in. Remember Tulane led the nation in 26 takeaways prior to that UAB game.

As for the comment that Watson Brown does not have a good record on the road?? Well that may be true, but it?s true for a lot of schools. A better indication I feel is the ATS record. UAB was 4-2 against the spread on the road in 2001, UAB was 4-1 against the spread on the road in 2000 and was 4-1-1 against the spread on the road in 1999. I feel that?s a lot better indicator of how a team is under or over achieving than actual record. Of course I do realize this season they are 0-3 vs the spread

Anyways, I?m totally convinced 100% that Army is the worst team in division 1A football. Army is a team that I did bet last week and they did cover for me, but after listening to that game and also reading tons of responses from fans and others that viewed the game, I feel that in that last game Army played the best possible game this team could possibly play. Now with this being said, they still lost by 14 and only turned the ball over 1 time which is amazing in itself considering Army was averaging an amazing 3 turnovers a game going into that last game. This was also against a Houston team that was having serious problems themselves and also against a Houston team that has only won 6 games in the last 3 years.
I think a lot of gamblers or sportsbettors feel like Army actually got a boost of confidence in that last game, but trust me that?s not true! The Army players were about as ?high up? as a team could get last week as they were looking at this Houston team as a chance to get their first win of the season. Well it didn?t happen and even though their offense put up some points, it was against a very weak Houston defense and speaking of defense, Army couldn?t stop them at all?.it was like NFL against High School! Personally, I think the Army team after the loss last week, is a team that just wants the season to end?.they realize they?re outclassed by everyone and expect them to allow points to be scored quickly on them and the offense to put up some points vs a less than average UAB defense, but also expect Army to make a few more mistakes than they did last week as well.

Taking a look at the Army defense, they have now given up 307 points in 7 games! This comes out to 44 points per game that their defense is allowing and you also gotta remember these are games vs very poor opponents. Heck they even got shut out 44-0 by Rutgers and lost to division AA school Holy Cross by 9 which was the closest game Army has played all season. Overall they are losing by an average margin of 25 points! Now the spread in this one is down to 8 ???

I feel the Army players might have thrown it in after last week, while if any team is showing improvement, you might say it?s UAB. Remember this UAB team was 5th overall in the nation in defense last year, and that has a lot to be contributed by the coaching staff, so even though they lost a lot of starters from a year ago, you can expect to see some continuous improvement.

Offensively, this should be a pretty high scoring game, but there is no way Army will hang with UAB. UAB will draw off in this one. Last season, UAB put up 55 points vs Army in rout to a 55-3 win and with most the offense back from a year ago, I don?t see anything less than a scoring machine by UAB in this one.

Also getting back to the mental state of both teams, the Army coaching staff have publicly stated their lack of confidence in the players which does not fair well for a team that lacks confidence, while the fans have publicly made their opinions felt as well on how bad this coaching staff is.

Just feel, you?ll see an easy win and a ton of points by UAB in this one. I could go on and on in this game, but bottom line, UAB gets the cover in this one.

Good luck!

MasterTX....the line movement doesn't scare me at all, just seems a bit strange. I've gone about as deep into this game and both teams previous games as possible and UAB gets the cover here as far as I'm concerned. We'll just have to wait and see :)

Here's the rest of my games for the college football weekend:

RUTGERS +16 (1 UNIT)
TULSA -2.5 (1 UNIT)
UNDER 44.5 TEXAS A&M (2 UNITS)

I'm waiting on some info on a couple more games, so it's possible I may have one or two more plays, but for now that all of them.

Good luck to all this weekend!

Not trying to pull you off your UAB pick as you are obviously committed which is good, but thought I'd make a few comments.

You go out of your way to discredit Army's performance against Houston by deriding the talent of Houston. Seems you've forgotten that this very same Houston team was kicking the living bejeesus out of UAB, in UAB's home, until the miraculous 2nd half turnaround. I know you have to remember that game as UAB was your play of the week that week also, (a game I took based on your being so high on UAB), and you must admit that was one very, very fortunate cover. Army played very well against that same team without benefit of being at home.

In the week prior, once again at home, UAB had one of the most fortuitous first halves of the year against a Memphis team which had everything that could possibly go wrong against them occur. UAB won the game but rode the first half as they essentially did nothing in the 2nd half.

In the 2nd week back you've got the road shutout thumping by powerhouse La Lafayette. Say what you want about Pittsburgh and frame of mind but that effort has to raise serious questions in anyone's mind about the makeup of this team. Add last weeks road effort against Tulane where they were shutout in the 2nd half and one would have to have serious questions about taking this team as a favorite in any match up, much less on the road.

Frankly, UAB has been a one half team virtually the whole year and I don't see where they've played a consistent 60 minute game yet. Now after spending the last five weeks in the balmy south they travel to the frigid and rainy north to play a team who has shown some offensive life in the last three games, and who put 27 points on the board when last at home against a pretty darn tough TCU defense.

Actually, I think I just convinced myself to take Army. Good luck to both of us.

DUKE +13.5 (1 UNIT)
VANDY -8 (1 UNIT)
NEW MEXICO +7 (-120) (1 UNIT)

Mickey's Picks.....First off, I appreciate your take as I do everyone's....that's what MJ's is all about, but I do feel I have to comment back to ya on this game on a few things:

All I'm going to say that you're mentioning Halves here. The game is 60 minutes long not just one half. UAB is an inexperenced team especially on the defensive side which will have some lapses. As far as you saying I'm "deriding the talent of Houston" YOU'RE DEAD WRONG!! Houston is a very talented team as they showed going from 0-11 to a good start this season. What I was saying is that Houston the last few weeks was a team that was in a bit of a state of "self doubt" and "confusion" If you're calling that UAB 51-34 rout of Houston after being down 28-6 a miracle turnaround you couldn't be MORE WRONG! That just backed up what I said about the "mental state of the team" UAB scored and when the momementum changed in their favor, Houston WAS in a state of confusion....sure I thought it may have happened a little earlier than it did that game, but take a look at the game and you'll see where I'm coming from.

In the 2nd week back you've got the road shutout thumping by powerhouse La Lafayette. Say what you want about Pittsburgh and frame of mind but that effort has to raise serious questions in anyone's mind about the makeup of this team. Add last weeks road effort against Tulane where they were shutout in the 2nd half and one would have to have serious questions about taking this team as a favorite in any match up, much less on the road

Again the team is young as far as experience goes....they took Lafayette lightly which a team like this will do, but they are not taking Army lightly...trust me....THEY KNOW THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS CONFERENCE MATCHUP. Also, they were shutout by Tulane in the 2nd half, but don't underestimate that Tulane Defense. They are probably the most improved as far as defense goes, plus If I recall, they either lead the league in takeaways this season or are right near the tops in the nation if they don't lead the nation

Not many teams play a consistent 60 minute game due to adjustments, but UAB going up against Army today may help with the offensive consistency. Now what is up with all this frigid weather.....the last I looked it's supposed to be mid to upper 50's by gametime and trust me.....sure it may feel colder to the UAB boys as they're not used to the colder weather, but I hardly think weather in the 50's is gonna be a shock to this team....gimme a break! Heck the players dressed will probably enjoy the temperature.....hardly cold enough to effect them. As far as the rain. Think it's supposed to ease up late morning, but if anything that's a negative for Army who is a team that has major problems with turnovers this season and if it is raining it will not benefit them any more.

Good luck to you....I've been wrong plenty of times before in my predictions, but still feel this is the strongest play on the board. I usually don't read a lot on the forum till I have my football homework done, but I'm seeing some bad info and takes on this game.....buy hey that's just my opinion. We're all entitled to view games differently just feel very strong about this play is all.

Again Good luck to you and thanks for sharing your opinions.
