1) Cleveland St +12.0 -110 (1U)
2) first half: Florida -7.5 -110 ( 1 U )
Louisiana Tech lost 29 ppg with the departures of Marco Cole and Gerrod Henderson, not to mention 10 rebounds per outing from the pairing as well. With that in mind, the Bulldogs are going to look even more to senior forward Antonio Meeking (11.2 ppg, 6.8 rpg) both in This game and all season long. Meeking shot a lofty 53.8 percent from the field in 2001-02, due in large part to the fact that he's never far from the rim. Senior guard Darrian Brown (9.9 ppg, 6.3 rpg) is another returning starter who tends to enjoy his time in the paint and dismiss taking quality shots from the perimeter. Senior guard Lavelle Felton might be the most complete player on the team after averaging 7.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game for the Bulldogs a season ago. Stepping in to occupy vacated spots on the floor are seniors Zach Johnson (6.7 ppg, 5.9 rpg) and Michael Wilder (7.8 ppg), two experienced players who will only get better with additional game time under their belts.
Udonis Haslem is gone, and in addition to replacing his inside presence, coach Donovan will be without sharp-shooting guard Brett Nelson for This contest. Because of a foot injury that has Nelson hobbled, two freshmen will be in the starting lineup. McDonald's All-American Anthony Roberson, who will fill in for Nelson, joins rookie swingman Matt Walsh. A Philadelphia-area product, Walsh is an explosive score with outstanding range and athleticism. Up front, Matt Bonner is obviously the key guy. Last season, he led Florida with 15.6 ppg and 7.2 rpg, and those numbers should only improve this year. Sophomore Davis Lee averaged 7.0 ppg a year ago, but his output is expected to improve with the loss of Haslem. Over the past four years, no team in the SEC has done it better than the Florida Gators. In that period, Florida has won a league-high 97 games and has claimed the SEC East title three consecutive years, while sharing the outright league title in two of those campaigns.
3) 1st half: Kansas -13.5 -110 ( 1U)
4) Holy Cross at Kansas Under 141 ( 1U)
5) Louisiana Tech at Florida Under 140.5 ( 1U)
6) Wagner +6.5 -110 ( 1U )
Wagner returns three of five starters from last year's team including first team All-NEC selection Jermaine Hall (21.0 ppg, 7.0 rpg), three-year captain Dedrick Dye (9.9 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 2.6 spg) and NEC Defensive Player of the Year Courtney Pritchard (9.5 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 4.8 spg). The lineup will be completed with junior college transfer Doug Viegas and Kevin Martin (0.4 ppg, 0.7 rpg). Coach Derek Whittenburg guided the team to a 19-10 record last year. The 19 wins were the most at the school in 25 years. The Seahawks finished the 2001-02 season ranked eighth in the nation in scoring (81.4 ppg) after placing ninth the year before.
The Spartans return three starters including last season's leading scorer, James Maye (13.8 ppg, 5.9 rpg). Maye was voted by the Southern Conference coaches as a preseason All-league pick. Junior Jay Joseph (10.8 ppg, 3.4 rpg) has started all 62 games in his career and is on pace to challenge the school's all-time scoring record of 1,592 career points. The Spartans also boast a pair of high school teammate guards in Ray Bristow and Mark Mason. These two young players helped lead Winston-Salem Parkland High to a runner-up finish in the AAA state championship last season. Bristow could push either starter for playing time in the backcourt. Head coach Fran McCaffery guided UNCG to its first 20-win season since the 1995-96 campaign last year and he promises to continue the up-tempo, controlled brand of basketball that has led to his team's recent success.
