Year 5 of the Weis regime was supposed to be the year that it all happened and the offense was a machine until they got to the read zone and the defense was competent until it got to be third down or it got to the second half. The team just looked tired in the second half of games and especially in the second half of the season. But they do have raw talent on their team. Their classes are as follows:
Seniors - Rivals #8 (minus Clausen and Tate)
Juniors - Rivals #1
Sophomores - Rivals #21 (small class)
Freshmen - Rivals #14
and the Wall Street Journal just did an analysis which has them #3 in the nation in average star ranking per projected starter. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703447004575449721827527374.html
. . and now there's a coach who has proven track record of getting the most out of his kids. The concern is whether he's had enough time.
I'm a bit worried about the offense gelling right away, but I think the defense is going to be the story and I'll be playing the under on the Purdue team total as soon as the line comes out.
________
Heard a podcast in which a handicapper said that he was all over Northwestern due to the complete lack of a returning offensive line at Vanderbilt. I jumped early.
Northwestern -3 -110* vs Vanderbilt
Lots of pressure and internal problems on the Michigan team right now and UConn has a well run program who will give Michigan's defenses fits. UConn will have problems with the QB, the refs and the piped-in Eminem, but a veteran Oline and back and a competent QB should wear them down.
Connecticut +3 -110 for Game
I had another thread about the problems in the Illini backfield and that's the main reason for this play
Missouri -12 -110 for Game
Jones third year against Tubby in his first game
SMU +14 -110 for Game
