A lot of ways that this can go under. Notre Dame's defense has been a strength all year long and Stanford will be a step up in class for ND, but it's going to be a step up in class for Stanford as well. They may still be more physical than the Irish, but the gap isn't as glaring as it was last year and the Irish have tall enough linebackers that the matchup problems that Stanford's tight ends give other teams won't be as prevalent.
Also, BC dominated the ND offense by putting them in bad field position and dropping 8 or 9 back against Notre Dame in passing situations. Tommy Rees doesn't have an arm to spread the field nor get the ball into tight spots, so he made passes that no one could get to. It was very effective and it's the same way Stanford attacked Notre Dame last year. . . and even with Crist's cannon for an arm, it stiffled the Irish offense until late.
