From the first game, you can see that the Irish have a good offensive line (but you wonder if they have a running back to run through it) and fantastic receivers (but you wonder if they can work with this quarterback). The defense needs a leader or leaders and they may not be that quick and might be the slow defense that Notre Dame has a reputation for over the last 20 years.
I think you can beat Notre Dame with a running game that gets their big bodies moving side to side and I think you can beat their offense with a strong running D and a risk-adverse scheme that drops 7-8 men into coverage and waits for Tommy Heisman and his 5-second release to try and beat them.
Michigan has none of the three.
