Isn't it hard to believe that in a college town the cops will waste everyone's time by arresting a bunch of college kids drinking beer? I thought there was usually an understanding in these towns that you contained the partys and didn't bust em. Too bad for Golic's kid he had to get his name dragged into the papers around the country for doing something every red blooded american kid does.

Hi Roger. I disagree. Breaking the law is breaking the law and kids get busted for this all the time. Footballers should not be offlimits. I was arrested for MIP in college and so were a lot of other kids I went to school with. It happens.

Has the penalty of minor in possession increase significantly? When I was in college the cops would give you a ticket which is far from being arrested and I would get a noise violation ticket for providing the beer and establishment! Ahhh those were th good ole days.:mj06:

I didn't really mean it in terms of footballers but this kid had him name dragged through the mud because he was drinking at a house party? Like the guys above, I think a ticket or citation would have done the trick. This is not what we need to filling our judicial system up with. Big waste of time.

Under age drinking

Under age drinking

I completely agree with Roger. I had a long conversation with D-1 coach and he explained it this way. He was trying to describe how hard it was for the coaches to manage this situation:

You have 18, 19 and 20 year olds living with, rooming with, and hanging around with 21and 22 year olds every waking hour of their lives. It is not against school rules to have alcohol. When a 21 year old comes back to the dorm with case of beer and three girls, what is the 19 year old supposed to do ???????

Not excusing the behavior, just passing along some wise words from someone who has to deal with this situation and its consequences on a regular basis.

(Tina Yothers must be a young buck, when I was in college the drinking age was 18 and we didnt have this issue!!)

Major issue is Yeatman who had a DUI earlier this year - he's on probabation. He's probably done for the year or he'll start depending on the Purdue gameplan

Feel bad for Golic

I realize this is off-topic, but 'Tina Yothers' is hands down the best name I've ever seen on this site. The fact that there's actually a Tina Yothers avatar just makes it that much funnier.

If they ever come up with a Soleil Moon-Frye or Keith Coogan avatar, I may just have to change my name.

And it appears to be autographed :mj07:

So because it was golic's kid he should have been let go. Why feel bad for him, he was there and got busted. Pretty simple to me..

Someting similar to this is when Ty Lawson (UNC basketball) recently got a DWI. He wasn't legally drunk, he was underage and had some alcohol.

I'm not condoning it and it is the law...I also think its really stupid to even take a chance driving in that situation, but what I'm saying is that I wouldn't put Lawson in the same category as someone who was drunk behind the wheel.

Unfortunately, the united states of hypocrisy does.

E Man,

The problem for Golic is that corking a 12 pack put his name in 2,000 newpapers the next day. That's and absurd pushishment for his "crime". These buffoon cops in the South Bend area seem to have nothing better to do.

These ND players should be suspended and thrown under the jailhouse.

where is their pride and self discipline.

where is Rudy when they need him most.

Of course Rudy was an older student and the drinking age was lower, but Dan Reutigger enjoyed beer as much as the next guy, even before he attended Notre Dame. "Mary, Mary, quite contrary...how does your garden grow"
